Joel Omans and Lucas Mann made the decision to make Rings of Saturn a strictly instrumental band on May 14th, 2021. This interview clip from 2024 addressing a decision that was made almost 3 years ago now shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who pays attention to the band. To get everyone caught up, Rings of Saturn has always had an instrumental track on every album. They released a fully instrumental version of every album in their discography, and followed that up by releasing an instrumental self-titled album in 2022. They performed the instrumental releases of their previous records along with their new self-titled album on tour in 2022 as well. Rings of Saturn recently released a follow up instrumental single, "Theogony," in 2023. They performed it live on a co-direct support slot for Born of Osiris, at a sold out show, at the end of 2023. In the full interview, it is mentioned that Rings of Saturn will be releasing a new instrumental album (or EP) tentatively in 2024. Our past discography with vocals will always be there for people that want to listen to it, but since we announced a strictly instrumental direction for Rings of Saturn on May 14th, 2021, we have always maintained this position. Huge thank you to our fans for always supporting Rings of Saturn 🪐

Sleep Terror was instrumental and they were fucking rad. And then they experimented with having a vocalist and no one was into it. Music, especially highly technical music, doesn't need vocals whatsoever

Get better and you'll go through the same evolution as Lucas. First you learn to hate clean vocals, then you learn to hate all vocals. I didn't go through this for 10 years after first getting into tech death.

ROS instrumentals are great. The vocals were so good and gave the songs more character though so they’ll be missed.
@omnipotentgaming1664 ай бұрын
That’s too bad, good luck on your future endeavors, I’ll probably give the music a listen here and there cause good instrumentals are good, and ROS does a good job, but I am disappointed because I really loved the vocals for ROS, and they were among my favorite bands, I still like you, but without the vocals the music just doesn’t hold that same place in my heart, and it’s all personal preference, Lucas is doing what makes him happy, I respect it and that’s also his personal preference.

Question Lucas, if you read these? Have you ever looked into/considered working with Archspire? Even just one solo in a track? I feel like your aggressive lead guitar style and overall mastery of musical composition would make their music even more insane than it is right now.😮

So it's just the death metal style of vocals? Have you experimented with different types of singers? The thing that got me into RoS was the instrumentation. Always loved the instrumental trakcs so either way I'll still be jamming. Just curious.

I respect it as I’ve gotten older I do still listen to metal with screaming but I do like to mix it up and listen to just instrumentals or clean vocals. I will say the whole scream, clean, scream metalcore vibe is dead and buried for me idk why no clean vocalist has a masculine undertone they all sound like pubescent kids or something 😂

funny enough i was thinking some guys like the guitars of ROS would be best without vocals, they're just that good that they sound better without em
@Samcomply4 ай бұрын
I respect it. Music is primarily sounds that come from instruments. Contemporary vocals, while they can be an instrument, though not always so, they are simply a different type of expression, a human expression, that are expressed and perceived in a different way than musical instruments. I think it would be a different story if vocals were used in the way of choral music. This is great for anyone who just wants to listen to music. Vocals are secondary. We’re not slamming to vocals, we’re not moshing to vocals. We’re slamming to slams, we’re moshing to breakdowns. The obnoxious technicality that we’re amazed by comes from instruments. And even without a degree of technicality, a great musical line will still satisfy.

Me entristece pero a la vez acepto y comparto lo que dice Lucas porque después de todo cuando tú te propones evolucionar, depende de que tan efectivo lo hagas también evoluciona lo demás y eso es parte del crecimiento personal y profesional
@Mokaygee4 ай бұрын
It's not needed. Vocals are just another instrument. Hey RoS why aren't you using a flute? >:( Vocals are just another instrument that isn't part of their sound anymore. I want to add that some of my favourite tracks are the instrumental versions, and some with vocals are my favourites. I want to say it's about 50-50. But when you write a song that is no longer built around where the vocals go (macrocosm, gidim), it tends to rise in my choice of favourites.

I feel this 100%. I stopped listening to death metal and really any music that had gutturals and growls for a couple of years. I just lost the interest. Got into fusion jazz and indie stuff. Now I’ve gotten back into death metal and the new crop of hardcore bands that are taking a more slam approach to the music and got back into it. I think it boiled down to metal, hardcore, et al. in general getting stale for several years.

This is what I begged interloper for but they mocked me and wouldn't do it. As you level up your tech death, the vocals become net negative basically always. They are just vomiting all over the skill/melody of the music. Clean vocals are even worse abomination though.
