I think that old fire trucks can be given to smaller communities that lack fire departments, and/or be converted to fight fires in forested or other hard to reach, areas.

Your float is stuck open on the carb. Tap the front of the carb with a hammer until it possibly frees up. That’s why the gas was pouring out of the top of the carb

There's a trick to installing those o-rings on the transfer tube of the Holley Carbs. . Put the o-rings on the tube just at the end. Don't put them all the way up to the bump in the tube. As you install the tube the o-ring will roll it's self into the hole and onto the tube farther sealing it. It might also have a stuck float .
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 Жыл бұрын
if the o-rings are shot, so are all the bowl and metering block gaskets. they dry out, shrink and pull in at the middle on all four sides(top/bottom is worse), that opens all sorts of passage ports, makes the accel. pump not work, fuel/air metering wrong and fuel leak everywhere. also the power valve/s will be spanked. the ethanol and detergents in fuel really spanks them to death. the later blue gaskets are much better at holding up, but even so. ditto on the o-ring placement and them rolling into place upon assembly. that said I absolutely hate the fuel crossover tube style.

Probably blew a fuse in the siren control box. I used to drive one it had 500 plus cubic inch engine. It was a long nose. Truck ran great and during pump testing it out pumped newer models. You could peal shingles off a roof running a 3 inch line down to 1 inch brass nozzle. Took 3 men to hold the line at 150 psi. It would lift you off the ground. Maybe we had a little fun during training sessions. It pumped over 1 thousand gallon per minute. Enjoyed the video.

a guy could quite easily use this pumper for grass hydro- seeding Bealy Goods pond area or yours. Its pretty much ready to go. I'd say it would take no more than than 45 minutes with the right nozzle and pressure after being set up. Instant thick grass in 30 days. Perfect rig for washing mud off dozers and excavators. You got a swiss army knife with multiple uses right there.
@snappingbear
@snappingbear Жыл бұрын
That is worth looking into. Hydoseeding is by far the best and fastest way to get grass growing especially on steep banks like the backside of a damn or on crappy soils. It's what Geoff Beale should've used on that one side of his pond where the soil is poor and rocky.

10 bucks says the pump on that bad boy still works. Can’t say much for the water tank though. Usually those are the first to go in those old trucks. Make sure there is some water in the tank so that way you don’t dry pump it. And let her rip.

Everyone will beg for its clean up, chase a few gremlins out like bad battery connections and such... freshen up the carburetor gaskets and seals. One thing for sure, having one parked near a home has to make your insurance go way down. Here in the valley of Wasilla Alaska, I was just a mile out from having fire truck service and most insurance companies wouldn't touch my place... but having a fire truck there not only made insurance possible but cheaper than the folks living within a five mile radius of the department.

My 1st patrol car in the mid 70's had a Federal Twin Sonic lightbar. 1 light on drivers side and 1 on pass side that rotated inside the dome. Cold weather the lights froze up and would not rotate. Had the old Federal wind up siren on top, Snow, sleet and freezing rain shut it up. The electronic siren and speaker like on this truck was Next Gen Up Town stuff. Got one of those in the later 70's. The city FD had trucks just like this cab style that were 64-66 yr models in the mid 70's.

OMG Chris you had me laughing so hard I was crying on this, and then when you actually got in it while the cab was up, I was almost on the floor.😂😂😂😂😂. Glad that you got it moved, if just by a little bit, but seemed to run pretty good. Great video!

if Chris leaves it there for another 10 years and a tree, the weeds overgrow it. otherwise, it's too easy for DieselCreek. Chris could accelerate the rusting , so DC wont have to wait another decade for it to clapped out rust bucket

@@austinwiles5865 yeah my bad, after I commented I thought he was probably talking about an excavator since Chris is a Volvo guy. 19 years I've worked for our County Road crew and all our 3 Excavators, 2 Dozers, 3 Wheel Loaders, 2 Dump Trucks are all Volvo.

@@dalejohns2758 a Volvo firetruck,,,, that might be interesting to see! Maybe have them in Europe, seems like they have all the stuff us Americans haven't turned something or another into. Hell I think i seen (what they call a log truck)they call them a lory or something. Was made by Mercedes, BMW or Fiat... Something you'd never in your wildest dreams think they'd make for that application.

What a fun video - this needs to be fixed up/painted. Kids (big and small) would love to play on this. (maybe even get the pumps to work too!)

Ran one like it for 15 years with our department. They LOVE gas but that 534 is a beast of an engine.
