Will the ATEM Mini get SRT support? I had a conversation with Blackmagic at IBC 2023 to get some answers!

Inquiring Minds want to know ❗ SRT = Stinger button 😒, in Higher Ed I know that more than a few Universities have adopted good ol' Epiphan Pearl devices as clasroom recorders for lectures. Now IIRC Epiphan has a number of SRT capable devices. So it might allow a random classroom to send it's cam/mic feeds to an BMD ATEM HD 8 ISO, or possibly up to 8 different classrooms to an HD 8 ISO and switch between them for a live event. I think some Universities might find that very valuable over something like a bunch of random IP cams sending RTSP to an OBS desktop and hope the feeds all make it to OBS to be switched.

I almost bought one myself recently. I was very happy about this update. Thought I could start using my web presenter again except it still has the cache. problem making it very unreliable. and practically useless. So sad.

As a freelancer on the church circuit, I can’t guarantee that camera operators will have a BM device, so opening up SRT would open up a lot of opportunities. I have at Extreme ISO which I use extensively and if that could stream via SRT, that would reduce the need for extra kit (Raspberry Pi/Nimble) and enable me to do a fully remote show.

It seems they are interested in having it open. Right of the bat, I can see me using LiveU with Bonding and sending it through SRT for ATEM to receive.

I was thinking the same thing. It would be great to be able to send someone a live u All they have to do is hit play. and they're live streaming back to you. Straight to your atem for super source and switching.

Great job. To me it looks like they are going that way. If they open up and start giving us what we want. We help sells of all of their products bottom line. Apple finally brought back HDMI audio 1/8 ect M1 Laptop Pro. . If Apple can do it Black Magic can should do it also. Just make everything better and easier for your customer should be the motto of all companies.

I guess there's something with their h264 decoder, just like Hyperdeck can play any Prores or DNXHD file you give it, but only blackmagic encoded mp4 files?

I have been using the streaming bridge receiving srt from a pearl nano and had great success! I’ll see if I can put a video together for that

Hi, there's a service called "KZfaq SRT (beta)" in the ATEM Software Control XML config file. I think that might be a good indication of things to come. Do you have any info about when KZfaq is going to unlock SRT for everyone? One could assume that after that BMD could release a FW upgrade to unlock the SRT option on the ATEM Minis.

I’ve been looking for for dummies version guide how to start and run SRT feed from web presenter etc. For a lesser techy remote friends (and customers) to test for. So far no good luck. Any hints.

Hello Aaron, what your be the bandwidth savings of SRT over RTMP. We have a venue that offers only 8 Mbit upstream and we don't dare to stream live from that location. If SRT would cut the bandwidth demand significantly that would be a game changer. I'm curious JAN

Is it possible to see multi view on same laptop from where we are controlling atem software and pro presentor without extra monitor?

Not easily, but technically yes. You can use an HDMI capture card on the laptop and connect the ATEM's HDMI out to it, then open up Quicktime or another program to view the capture card on the computer screen. There's no way to do it over USB only though.

Yeah for sure! That's a great camera. Just make sure it's set to hide the menus on the HDMI output

Still no word! It's a bit soon after IBC to expect another announcement tho, I wouldn't expect to hear anything until January at the earliest

Q ? • AARON, will SRT be a simple software (extra paid software download ?) update, or will a new line of ATEM hardware need to be manufactured to make SRT happen..?

I'm crossing my fingers they will be able to ship it as an update to the ATEMs like they did with the Web Presenter!

I wonder if they're doing anything to thee. 4K.8 It's very behind release. So maybe they're working on something like adding this capability.@@aaronpk
