Now that the shock has worn off from the Atlanta Falcons' selection of quarterback Michael Penix in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, will they live to regret it? Crying about cornerbacks when we had a top 7 pass defense in 2023 and okudah was one of the worst corners on the team. I'm here to educate any falcons fans that may still be on the ledge. Our run defense was 20th and particularly bad when grady jarrett went down. We even lost onyemata for a few games. Ellis couldn't be used to pass rush more because troy anderson was hurt. Now let's use some logic what did we draft? DT EDGE DT LB DT. It's almost as if the falcons front office noticed this too. We're gonna be fine even without over drafting an edge rusher in a weak class.

There were only 3 impact defenders last year in the 1st round (2023). Why tf do yall keep talking like a defender would transform our Defense to a Top3 unit? Not realistic at all. Y’all just cry whenever something doesn’t go as u predicted. Over half of 1st rounders are busts EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Now all of a sudden it is problem obtaining a potential qb for the next 10+ seasons 😂😭. Make is make sense

I can't watch any podcasts about the Falcons this off-season. It used to be one of my favorite things to do. Local and national sports talk is ruined for me after this draft pick. I think the Falcons will be good. Just waiting for the season now.

After I calmed down I was okay with the pick. I like the defensive guys we drafted and see upside in some existing players. AK got 6 sacks and only played about 28% of the defensive snaps. He should also benefit from more push by interior guys. Zach Harrison should make that leap that comes with another year. I am hoping for an upgrade at the corner.

Assistant GM Kyle Smith by accident just revealed how the Penix pick came to be... Kyle Smith tried to explain why taking both makes sense but no one on the FALCONS can explain why drafting Penix and signing Kirk to 100M deal makes sense! Both moves make sense IF you do only one of them by doing both you hurt winning now and winning later. They Out Smarted themselves again. Here is the dead giveaway he says, "I thought 4 QBs would go before our pick." He also says, "the only QB they would take was Penix." So they thought Penix would be the 4th QB that would go so THAT IS WHY THEY SIGNED KIRK they thought Penix would be gone! BUT ONLY THEY THOUGHT THAT which shows how bad they are at their jobs. EVERYONE knew Penix would be there at 8 but them everyone knew if a 4th QB was taken it would be JJ not Penix. They loved Penix I get it they thought he would be gone by 8 and they were rebuffed on trading up so they signed Kirk. But here's the thing when Penix did drop to them much to their surprise you have to pass BECAUSE YOU SIGNED KIRK. If you won't pass you're hurting your team and laters. Okay you made a mistake on where Penix would go and you signed Kirk BUT THEN YOU WERE SURPRISED HE DROPPED TO YOU I get it but at that point you have to act like an adult since you're committed to Kirk financially (and the promises you made to him) you need to pass on Penix and pick ANY PLAYER but another QB. This whole thing shows how incompetent this Front Office is.

The Falcons did the right thing and i honesty am baffled about the short sidedness with this critics. So the Falcons goal was to take a QB they want to devolp for year 3. They clearly viewed Penix as that guy hands downs in there mind. Everybody's response is "take this devolpmental guy who statistically wont pan out because he FOR SURE WILL PAN" which makes no sense if your staring at a QB you love (and other teams did to) Now lets think if they didnt take a QB, the plan with Kirk is to be in the playoffs the next 2 seasons right? So lets say you move on from Kirk in 2 seasons and need a QB. Well congratulations here is the 24th pick in the draft. There will definitely be a top QB prospect available then for sure. And that QB wont be developed at all so odds are you are having 2 bad seasons just to findout if your guy is the guy. (RIDDER) Then the odds are he wont be the guy and you are drafting again the next year. If the plan is to be good with Kirk then this should be the last top 10 pick the Falcons have for a while. Its a good pick. And i also thought it was bad at first.

That makes no sense what so ever. If the goal is to draft a QB you want to develop for the next two years, than what you should do is maximize his rookie contract. You extend Pitts, bring free agents to help build the team around your rookie, draft raw talent on the defense that can mature with your QB, and sign a veteran bridge QB for around $5M , while Penix sits. Then in two years you hit the ground running, all of your offensive weapons will be under contract, and at a discount because they didn't breakout with the bridge QB, your defense should have emerged and your team is ready to make a playoff push. Or You sign Cousins and make a run right now. Use the 8th pick on an impact player now, and try to make a SB run. If in two season it doesn't work out, then draft another QB and keep Cousins because he is under contract for four years. But what we did instead is both. Now we have Cousins that can't be the leader of this team because everyone knows when he will be cut. Also, the front office lied to him to get him here, which makes for an unhappy locker room because players can't trust the front office to keep their word. Every veteran player on the squad is aware that they won't be on this team when they actually try to make a run because 90% of them aren't under contract past 2026. Penix on the other hand is stuck in the terrible situation of having to sit for a minimum of two years if things go poorly, and 4 years if they go well. If the team succeeds he won't see the field until he is 28. That will cost him millions, plus as an athlete, he wants to compete. Add to the fact that he is now the most discussed player in the draft because of where he was drafted, and he can't do anything about the nearative until 2026. The fan reaction was negative, and all he can do is sit and watch. If you have a plan that makes no one happy, and everyone on the outside thinks it is bad, you should check again. But the thing is, this wasn't planned. That is why we are going to end up trading Cousins next season and losing 25M on the deal.

You should watch "Atlanta Falcons 2024 NFL Draft Class Data Review" Based on our players measurables, college production, and combine performance scores, we have the lowest rated draft class in the league. We received and overall grade of F-. And not because of Penix.

If you we're going to draft Michael Phenix, then you should have not spent that money on Kirk and went and got the D.Hunter,Tee Higgins or Brandon A. And a top tier corner and safety and we would have had a shot to make it at least to the NFC championship now at best we might win the South and then get booted the very next round if we're lucky

Hopefully neither #1 & #2 (Penix) will stay healthy. Both have a tendency to fall to injury. #3 will probably be a factor. That OL will play a HUGE part.

YES, of course they will. If Cousins goes down Penix will not be ready. He's a pocket passer, he stands there and counts Mississippi till whenever, that doesn't work with our O line. If Cousins is decent then Penix won't start till he's 29.

People on the comments caping the falcons Front Office for this atrocity of an offseason are nuts lol it’s okay to draft Penix but why sign Kirk? It’s okay to sign Kirk but why draft Penix round 1? It’s stupid and a waste of asset allocation. All it does is hinder the team’s potential to win rn. That $100M spent on Kirk could have been danielle Hunter, a CB2 and another WR but instead we wasted it on Kirk. Stupid move and anyone defending it is not thinking with their brain. I want the team to be good just like yall but I’m sick of TF operating without a vision

We have to fire TF. Last year he used our first pick on a RB and told us he was the best player available even though we had a 1,000 rusher on the team. This year we take three DT because we didn't draft the one we need last year at 8. Bijan is a good player, but he just cost us three draft picks this year. TF doesn't understand roster construction.

It’s not about a preferred player, it’s about being coherent and taking the best path to get back in the playoffs and really make a push for superbowl.
