Will the RTIC 52 QT Ultra-Light Wheeled Cooler Survive?

When RTIC released the new RTIC 52 QT Ultra-Light Wheeled Cooler and said "Take good times on the go with our all-terrain wheeled cooler," I took that to heart and rolled it through the wringer behind a side-by-side. In this cooler review of one of the newest, and perhaps one of the best wheeled coolers, I provide an in-depth look at the durability, features, ice retention, and especially wheelability of this rolling ice chest.

Glad to see a vid on this. Great information. Thank You. I have 4 of their coolers already (20, 65, 32 and 52 Ultra Lights). They're great products. I love the wheeled aspect of this, makes it easier to move around when full of ice and beer. I think I might put it on my list for this year.

Thanks for another review. If I end up going with a larger cooler, I will consider this one. Seems like a good in between option. I really don’t see myself needing a yeti, or similar, but I want quality and good ice retention.

I bet it won't be long before they add another size. Hard to say if it'll be bigger or smaller though.

You stopped the test early. Where keeping water shines is after all the ice melts. It’s like ice in your drink, your drink only heats up after all the ice is gone. If you kept the test going until each cooler got warm inside then the water cooler would stay cold like 10x longer after all the ice is gone.

yo random thought if they leak water. Wouldn't that mean they don't have a proper seal affecting the performance for keeping the cool ambient contained. Great review looking to purchase
@outdoorempirecom
@outdoorempirecom Жыл бұрын
Good point, I thought the same thing. But looking closer I think that gasket can seal out air, but let water through. The pressure of the water can squish that rubber gasket enough to get through, but those coolers held ice super well so I don't think that's an issue with air alone.
@whatfreedom7
@whatfreedom7 11 ай бұрын
My opinion is if it isn’t leak free with water with no pressure I doubt it’s air tight either.
@outdoorempirecom
@outdoorempirecom 11 ай бұрын
That may be true, but air puts a lot less pressure on the seal than sloshing water. And some of the coolers I've tested leaked water like that but had amazing ice retention.

Just out of interest, have you ever tested the water ceiling ability of an Ozark trail cooler? One reviewer was saying whenever he goes down in elevation it’s almost impossible to break the seal of the lid because it’s so sealed up good. They seem to be a good cooler as well.

Fancy you should ask! I just finished filming a Best Wheeled Coolers video tonight. It's pretty detailed so if you can wait a week or two you might want to see that before you buy. But off the cuff, it pretty much comes down to this RTIC or the YETI Tundra Haul which has a couple points up on the RTIC, but the RTIC rolls better and is $150 cheaper. There are some other good ones too I talk about in the upcoming video.

It lets water out but does it let water in? I’ve just sent a Coleman back because I ended up with an inch of water inside after a heavy downpour.

Hey does it leak with the drain plug style? Also how's the ultra light compare to their regular rotomolded
@outdoorempirecom
@outdoorempirecom 11 ай бұрын
Hasn't leaked on me yet and it shouldn't as long as it doesn't get damaged. The Ultra-Light is lighter than the regular RTIC rotomolded hard cooler, but it doesn't stay quite as cold or retain ice for quite as long. But honestly, unless you need it to keep the same ice cold for more than 5 days or so, I think the Ultra-Light is great.

@outdoorempirecom
@outdoorempirecom Жыл бұрын
Ya it definitely leaks out through right under the lid. Granted I just filled it with water so if it's ice with some water in there, it's probably not a problem.
