Will The World Give Up European Cars For Made-In-China Electric Vehicles?

China emerged as one of the world’s top car exporters in 2023, powered by its massive push for electric vehicles. Buoyed by years of heavy government investments, subsidies, and manufacturing rebates, Chinese automakers have flooded overseas markets as global EV demand continues to rise. In Q4 2023, China’s BYD even outsold Tesla in sales volume for the first time.
Amid the advent of Chinese brands like NIO and Xpeng, the European Union launched an anti-subsidy investigation into China’s EV trade practices in late 2023. The move prompted swift retaliation from China, sparking concerns about a trade war.

I didn't become financially independent until I was in my late 40's, and I'm still in my 40's. In addition to having purchased my second home and earning money on a monthly basis through passive income, I've also achieved three out of five goals. I just hope this inspires someone to realize that it doesn't matter if you don't have any of these things yet, you can start today no matter your age. Change your future by investing! I made a rather big decision by investing in the financial market.

Investing in many sources of income that are independent on government paychecks is the prudent thing that everyone should be thinking about right now, especially given the global economic crisis. Stocks, forex, and digital currencies are still good investments at this time.

As a customer I don't care which country makes the product as long as I get value for money, if that means a Chinese made car over a European car then so be it. The EU gives out grants to companies which essentially is a subsidy, I don't see an issue for China giving companies subsidies. At the end of the day if the product is good, reasonably priced and efficient I don't care where it's made.

Yes, but you should add reliability. How does the product age and am I going to spend an arm and a leg on maintenance later on? For instance, there are plenty of horror stories about $60k bills for Hyundai Ioniq if the battery pack is damaged or needs to be replaced. The BYD EV cars could age like fine wine or like the Volkswagon Taos with its 6 recalls (including issues with overheating and the brakes). For now I'm going to just watch on the sidelines in my Toyota.

Thank you. The white propaganda is in full force in this comment section. Remember, years of colonialism have brainwashed you into thinking white = superior. BYD achieves price advantage not from cost cutting but from supplying their own batteries and also manufacturing in their own country. If unsure, test it out yourself, do your own research, ask your ASIAN engineer friends etc. Without colonial loots and being way behind in America/East Asia in tech, Europe is collapsing.

Each country nowadays are going back to trade protectionism. There will be some sectors that China moves ahead and some sector that they are behind. US and EU also subsided aviation sector, and how come no one says anything. EU luxury bags and jewelry are flooding Chinese market, so does it means that China could also put a trade restriction to block all those goods to be sold inside China? The purpose of global trade is I sell you the products I made best and you sell me the products you made best. Otherwise, there is no purpose of global trade. EU companies make tons of money inside China for the last 40 years, so I don't see what is wrong to Chinese companies to make some money in EU market.

No, that means they are willing to take the lose for now in order to bankrupt their competition. Once their dumping bankrupts all the other companies, they will raise their prices and make their money back. China already did this with solar panels and steel. China also does this with real estate. They have been building ghost cities and bridges to nowhere using debt to pump up their GDP numbers for over 15 years now.... This isn't sustainable. That's why their fake ponzi scheme economy is collapsing. The EU doesn't want them to take their real profitable companies with them in their giant scam.... China causes all of the world's problems. That's why the entire civilized world is decoupling from them. This should have been done 15 years ago...

I think it's unfair to judge a product solely based on where it is made. What really matters is the quality of the product and the customer service it provides. Some people tend to overlook the fact that Nio produces excellent cars and has a superior infrastructure when compared to that of Tesla. However, because it originates from China, it is often looked down upon. I believe this kind of bias is unnecessary and we should focus on the actual product instead.

It's partly due to corporate greed. You can't find a cheap EV from Germany, or the US, because they are padding their wallets over what's best for the consumer. Where Chinese cars, are just trying to get a foothold, so they price their car better, and not worried about building 1000hp family cars, and build cars that people will/can buy, which America and Germany arent interested in, they make EV's exclusively for the rich.

The cars may flood the market for now but they are not selling and the EU are looking into the subsidies these Chinese inferior made machines are getting to for Europe to compete with. The push back is coming and it's inevitable for China. As for their cars, why would you buy one of theirs just because they're cheap? Anyone can buy a cheap European made car where you won't be financing an immoral government. Why should Europe be the dumping ground of China's unwanted EV's and kill their own industry at the same time? Makes sense to decouple from China, put 50% tariffs on Chinese cars.

Over the past 40 years, a range of European and American automobile companies have made huge profits from China. But China has not pursued a policy of trade protection, especially for Volkswagen, which derives nearly fifty percent of its annual sales from the Chinese market. Especially after the huge penalties of VW Emissionsgate, VW is relying on the Chinese market to survive the crisis. In its backward phase, China was extremely welcoming to foreign companies investing in China, recognizing its own shortcomings and actively learning from them. I have experienced the 1990s, when one factory and enterprise after another went bankrupt and reorganized due to technological backwardness. But when China's automobile industry could compete with European automobile companies in terms of technological accumulation, the Europeans intended to close the market. I really don't understand why Europe and the United States have double standards when it comes to natural market competition.
