One thing that makes Axl Rose such a great frontman is the countless energy he brings every show. You may find it odd that he runs constantly throughout the stage, but it is safe to say that he is one of the few who has enough stamina to do it to entertain every audience - while still able to say those insanely high notes. What makes him unique is the variety of voice he has: from the screams, to the deep voice, and to the "speak and sing" thing you mentioned. Just watch more of their lives and you will understand why he is one of the best live singers of all time.

Also, to add to what you mentioned @tszfungshin5971 is Axl was also extremely mentally ill and basically a hermit until show time and basically let all his demons out on stage so to speak. Also, Slash is on heroin and vodka and at this point Duff was drinking a GALLON of vodka a day and coked out of his mind

@@supertrexandroidx, Respectfully disagree. I have been a huge GnR fan since 1990. I had attended a GnR concert last month. It was a great & fun concert. Axl is still awesome, Live. No one stays the same as they were 30+ years ago, so I am not sure why judge Axl for that. He is still great. He still has his baritone, he still has his rasp (he uses it very carefully these days, but he still has it when he wants to use it), he still has his high notes. He also still has a lot of energy, considering that he is 61 years old. it is unfair to judge Axl from onIine recording, because it really does not do his vocals any justice. I loved every moment of the concert & I would go again, in a heartbeat :)

Heads up on that version of Rocket Queen has a short version of an unreleased GNR song in it. That song is not for small children to listen to. The song is It Tastes Good Don’t It. It is GNR’s version of a rap song from the mid 90’s. So just a heads up. There is a full version of that song on KZfaq and you’ll hear why Axl destroyed his vocal cords singing it one time.

This Tokyo show from 1992 had captured one of Guns N' Roses good nights playing live, because the band was chaos... A GNR insider once said in an interview that they weren't sure whether they'd get a riot ... an overdose ... a cancellation ... or a trainwreck w/ each show, but at the same time... they wouldn't know if they would witness one of the greatest live performances on stage. Guns N' Roses were known for their high energy concerts and unpredictable antics in the 80's, but when the 2 'Use you illusion' album were released in 1991, they were one of the biggest bands in the world... But it came at a cost. Original drummer Steven Adler was fired in 1990 after he was too hooked on junk to perform in the studio... Matt Sorum did all the drum tracks and joined Guns N' Roses by 1991... Dizzy Reed (keyboards/ piano) was also added to the line-up. Unlike the debut album 'Appetite for destruction'.... the 'illusion' albums had every song the band had written w/ their classic line-up (W. Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, and Duff McKagan) ... so, it was all over the place musically and even had country-style songs. Both albums reached the top of the US charts and were a massive hit worldwide. When Guns N' Roses hit the road in 1991, it was apparent that they were no longer the same 5 guys on stage... Vocalist W. Axl Rose was running the show and demanded that the others sign over the rights to the name 'Guns N' Roses' to him, or else he was breaking up the band. Slash, Izzy and Duff reluctantly agreed to do that under duress... they didn't want to face million$ in losses, but they would soon deeply regret that decision... On the stage, Axl demanded that the band would perform w/ a grand piano onstage... and extra keyboardist... and a female horn section/ backing vocal group... It looked 'bloated' - it wasn't a band of outlaws playing rock n' roll music anymore. After a St Louis concert ended in a riot, Axl Rose was arrested for his role that led to the incident... Guitarist Izzy Stradlin was fed up w/ the chaos and quit the band in late 1991, allegedly after Axl Rose demanded that he sign a contract that would reduce his pay in the band (Axl felt that Izzy didn't work as hard onstage as him, Slash and Duff... he didn't account for the fact that Izzy was a crucial songwriter in Guns). When Izzy left, members of the crew wanted to leave w/ him... but their livelihoods were at stake, so they let the chaos continue... Slash brought in guitarist Gilby Clarke to replace Izzy Stradlin for the tour... Gilby knew that he was a 'hired gun' who could be fired any day, but he stayed and appeared in most of the 'illusion' music videos... The Tokyo '92 show was one of his first performances w/ Guns N' Roses. Of course, things didn't get better on tour... they got worse. Disaster struck in '92 at a show in Montreal after Axl Rose left the stage early (Metallica were the co-headline band, and their frontman/ guitarist James Hetfield was burned by pyro onstage that night and Metallica were forced to end their set) ... The irate audience rioted and destroyed the venue. Drugs and alcohol were a major factor and both Slash and Duff McKagan almost did not survive the tour... Gilby Clarke was injured in a motorbike accident, so Izzy Stradlin came back to play a few Guns N' Roses shows while Clarke recovered... Izzy was shocked to see how bad the band had deteriorated physically and mentally. The 'illusion' tour ended in 1993, but Guns N' Roses disappeared from view and by 1999, it was reported that only Axl Rose was left in the band. He tried to relaunch Guns N' Roses in the early 2000's w/ new members... but few wanted the band without the classic line-up.

The Japanese crowd may've had some to do with it being one of the more controlled live performances. It's hard for me to imagine the reserved Japanese being chaotic and rioting, for instance.

@@Osprey850 Not likely... The Japanese rules r strict and Guns N' Roses would likely be jailed if caught w/ drugs or cause chaos (Paul McCartney was busted in Japan for pot in 1980 and spent days in jail... He was eventually deported and could not play in the country for 10 years) I'm sure the managers warned the band not to tempt fate in a foreign country... so, it was Guns N' Roses who were likely told to behave.

@@BrianYates-ue8hf and Axl is never just moving around, he is sprinting all over the stage like a mad man... At least he was back in the day. I'm sure he isn't quite as mobile these days. He's putting on a show over singing out his lyrics perfectly. It was part of the rock-'n'-roll! Small mistakes happen and Kirk from Metallica has said he pretty much never plays the solos like he does on the album versions. Guys you have to react to ``Don´t Cry´´ and ``Estranged´´ because with ``November Rain´´ they make a trilogy of sorts following the story of a romantic relationship. (``Don´t Cry´´, ``November Rain´´ and ``Estranged´´ in order) I also recommend to see the song ``Bohemian Rhapsody´´ from The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, it is one of the most exciting performance I have ever seen in my life despite the sad cause of the concert. I totally love this reactions to Guns N´ Roses, it´s my favourite band and I´m glad other people discover his great music even though so many years have passed, his music will never die if we continue listening to it. This was actually a pretty good live performance, both Axl and Slash's guitar solo. I would still listen to the studio version where the recording itself is better recorded. Axl gets tired from constantly running and misses some lines. BTW, short shorts was normal up until the mid 90's. Michael Jordan had started to wear longer leg under-shorts under his uniform that extended the length of cloth down his leg. It was after that, where longer shorts quickly evolved longer and longer.

Studio version is always spotless, but people don't go to live performances to hear what they could be listening to on the CD at home, the energy these guys have on stage is part of what made them legendary so fans already go with the expectation of not listening a clean performance when they know the guy is jumping around lo. But the Australian band Rose Tattoo had a massive influence in early GNR in fact they included , the Rose Tattoo song " Nice Boys" on the first EP " Live like a suicide" and later included it on " Lies" , the 1979 Rose Tattoo album cover is exactly the same as Appitite For Destruction , just google Rose Tattoo and see ! When GNR came to Australia in ,early 1993 for the Use your illusion tour Rose Tattoo was part of the line up and did Nice Boys with GNR live .

Omg I loved your facial expressions! 😂 Everyone brings up the shorts. He wears them cuz he would get overheated on stage & sweats a ton. And cuz it was sexy af & girls loved it… at least I did. My parrot’s more obsessed with his hair. Lol. She does the Axl snake dance over on my channel as the biggest parrot fan ever. She even has an Axl doll with a pumpkin that holds her treats she earned with her allowance and picked out. And she kisses her doll every night at bedtime. Sometimes I thought he should slow down on running across the stage while singing too. Lol. So I get ya there. But his energy on stage is what made this band so unique and impactful along with them coming out during a time when kids were getting tired of the same old hair bands and weren’t quite ready and open minded enough yet for something new. So they exposed kids to different styles of music they might not have otherwise learned about. I wish more reviewers of their music would discuss their cultural impact that way and why they got so big cuz they could put blues or de*th metal into the same song. Back then this wasn’t as common. They opened peoples minds to musical possibilities. Also since you reviewed one of my fav songs as a fandom tradition holder and teacher since I was there from the beginning and saw these traditions spring up in the fandom as songs had profound impacts on fans, so you get the story (which is also in more depth on my fandom traditions video on my channel for more). So since I see a lot of new millenial reviewers not even discussing a song’s meaning or impact when they review like they say for 9-10 mins how they liked the song, & which parts they liked but fail to discuss the songs meaning or impact, or different influences that were used in the song… it’s like they’re missing all of the good stuff so I’ve taken up that musical education banner so these things aren’t forgotten as to why the band got so big and made such huge worldwide impacts. It was cuz they exposed kids to new styles of music. Because so much was going on in the 90’s & with Gen X like the 90’s youth homeless crisis where kids were really struggling out there. These kids felt the band had their back and cared. Gnr is a sacred band to portland Oregon because of this. A dear deceased friend who was a talented d dj and songwriter named AP, who I used to write and perform with, used to write with the general chicken boys who gave a bunch of songs to the band. Sometimes they come out. And then sometimes I discuss and review them and hopefully add some context and meaning and share about my friend’s life in his memory. So the Nighttrain tradition in the fandom is that while this song seems about just getting wasted on cheap stuff, it ended up having an impact on the fandom at the time during a time of homelessness that the meaning turned into one that symbolizes helping people. Kids organized feed the homeless days to this song where they’d play it as they handed food out in food lines. It also symbolizes not leaving a friend behind so if u had a friend who needed cheering up you’d take them a bottle of Nightrain and spend a night with them to cheer them up. So sometimes their songs seem about one thing and came to mean another and I rarely hear reviewers discuss this stuff so future generations of the fandom know how it all started. These are important things that kept the band alive for so long as top musicians cuz the fans often saw positive benefits out there because of their music. Another example is Scraped. When that song came out it had a weird miraculous unexpected benefit of teaching ladies it was ok to say no. Back then there was a lot of trafficking and any time there’s a homeless crisis that sort of thing happens. Some ladies didn’t feel they could survive if they didn’t do what guys giving them places to crash wanted and when this song came out, suddenly ladies everywhere started saying heck no! But you wouldn’t necessarily think the song would have that effect.., but it did. Like how nightrain helped feed the homeless. There’s more stories like that on my channel in my growing up in rock n roll which I’m only doing in memory of my deceased friend and cuz I keep seeing reviewers missing this stuff. There’s whole lot more to discuss than the s*xy shorts. He also wears a piano coat on stage to be respectful of the art form chs that used to be a hard rule for pianists performing, you could not perform without a coat on stage. So that’s how Axl did it even if it seemed odd for a rock band & initially confused fans a bit. It’s great to see so many enjoying their music like you guys did. Big smiles on you guys listening to their music which is always nice to see. You should see my parrot going off about Axl’s hair… she’s obsessed with his hair. Lol. Look forward to more of your reviews and God bless.

Well can anybody sing and run at the same time? He did a great job, real and raw. And the shorts? Who cares ! He is the only one who could pull it off and no give a f@$k. Great performer and great singer back in the days.

Axl was all over the stage, up n' down the ramps all nite long, that tour in particular, thus the reasoning behind the shorts. Other times, he wore a kilt.

There's only 1 Axl, that's why he's the only musician that hasn't been pants. He could go out there in high heels, wig and makeup on and nobody would notice or care once the show starts because he's the best to do it.

The short shorts actually had a purpose… axl felt that he needed to wear something that could allow him to move as freely and comfortably around stage, it’s a funny look for sure 😅 but with all the acrobatics and running around stage you can see his point

I think Nightrain wine might be still around somewhere, but hard to find. It was cheap stuff so kids and old winos drank it. Hell, I drank it! Feel like a wino!

Axl's voice was at its best between 85-87, you can already hear his voice deteriorating in 88. When Axl was in his prime, he was insanely good. This concert "Tokyo 1992" is ok, but Axl is already past his prime here. If you're judging Axl by voice, his best years are 85-88, if you're judging him by his overall live performance, his best years are 85-91, he started to phone it in a bit from 92' onward.

Hollywood Rose and LA GUNS were the to band that became Guns and Roses . & The first song they wrote as the band GNR was Don't Cry. LA Guns are still around l do believe with there Singer that started with after Axl Rose left with Izzy to from GNR.

Axl started wearing white bike shorts all the time in concert. These velvet ones were for special days, apparently. 😂 If you do any live GnR videos in the future, The Ritz concert from the late 80s might be better.
