Looks like I have to do a FAQ as this video has been so popular: 1) No Jaycar do not sell this scope for $5, you can't but it anywhere. I got it at a clearance dumpster sale. 2) No I could not buy two of them to swap parts, I was very lucky to get the last one. A minute or two later and it would have been gone. 3) No I cannot ship it to country X. International postage is expensive, so I will give it away to a local kid here in Australia if it gets fixed. I don't care if you think that's unfair.

What kind of isolation do they have between the sensing side and the computer, any chance of blowing up your PC? Ideally you’d have opto-isolation at or just before the USB, or maybe after the ADC. I’d also like to know what kind of front-end protection they have for the scope itself.

Also to verify, the scope appears to have 'booted up' so a new screen will fix it if compatible. You can use the DSO and the signal generator - but you switch screens to view the output waveform of the generator when setting it... Apparently it uses the front USB like it does the SD-card slot, you can save waveform captures as csv. The rear one interfaces with a computer, according to the manual. I think you can bring up the display... I gotta play around with my one a bit more - good to know about that coin-cell in there, something to replace every few years...

My impression of the Hantek USB scopes isn't the best, especially the software (didn't someone make a better replacement free online?), but 20MHz can be way more than you need for many jobs and when you need a scope a low end one can be way better than none. We can't all work in the MHz range, some signals only go to kHz. ;) Great idea for a giveaway!

Would really love to see full investigation and repair on the Hantek 4000c scope that you got with that display damage, especially if there's anything wrong with it besides display. Hey a Pandora without a PCB is a decent catch too. Big metal console with all the controls on it, and like sure they're your standard knockoff grade, but arcade style controllers for home consoles, when those were a thing, in the 16bit era, were often worse, much much worse. That power amp is MUCH nicer than Dynavox miniamps that you could get back here a while back as well. USB scopes - nice as well, for sure will help someone along.
