In this video, we do a walkaround of Ian's Toyota Tundra Overland build, but it is not typical to the United States. It is based off of an Australian build style.

That’s a sick setup, it looks a lot like the Aussies on 4wd 24/7. Very disappointed that Toyota changed the tundra the way they did. Awesome build and walk around 👏 hopefully we could see more of it off-road.

Speaking of Australia, the new Toyota Tundra is possibly coming to Australia either next year or in 2024, as Toyota is partnering up with Walkinshaw for conversions.

I would just be terrified of the payload capacity of that build. I had a Tundra crew max limited and my payload was only 1,025lbs. If you are already at 11-1200 lbs with just the bed system plus your weight you might be in a dangerous situation if you ever get into an accident. Also, insurance won't cover anything if you do get into an accident because you are driving in an unsafe manner. Just some things to think about. It looks good though.
@whackityschmackitydo
@whackityschmackitydo Жыл бұрын
Not true. The only thing insurance can deny is fraud (getting in a wreck on purpose to collect insurance money, for example). They have to pay up to your limit of coverage even if you were doing something you know is stupid or grossly negligent. Stupid negligence is why insurance exists. I agree with you about the payload though. Toyota rates these trucks way too low. The reality is, though, that door jamb number does nothing but absolve the manufacturer of any liability in the event of the owner having an accident while using the truck outside the manufacturer’s recommendations.
@montechie
@montechie Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I wonder how much the deleted full steel bed weighed vs the 400lbs alum tray. I love that gen of Tundra, but wonder why the payload is so poor vs comparable trucks.
@whackityschmackitydo
@whackityschmackitydo Жыл бұрын
@@montechie it is a 2006 design. Back then, half tons were rated to carry 1000 lb (half a ton) or a bit more. Now, the term is meaningless. The nice thing about that generation of Tundra is that the axle ratings are so much higher. 4000FF/4150RR. So you can carry up to 8150 lb if properly loaded without overloading either axle. Curb weight is around 5900 lb depending on trim level. Not bad for an ancient “half ton”.
@montechie
@montechie Жыл бұрын
@@whackityschmackitydo That's interesting about the axles. That's a good point about the age of that gen, that payload (1500ish) is comparable to my '03 F150 which was 1650ish in comparable trim (4x4, Crew, short bed, larger v8 option).
