Kev, try moving the weight distribution to the nose, that way in a nose wheelie you end up putting the CG closer to the ground, and you wont have the tail dictating so much of the topple! It'll also help you get into the nose wheelie by making the tail lighter to put in the air.

It doesn't matter where it's located as long as it's orientated correctly. It's only sensing rotation, not acceleration. That's why it works just as well on the nose of the helicopter as it does anywhere else.

Kevin. For it to work you need an auto-level mems gyro. The Tail gyro is a rate 3-axis gyro so it won't hold the wheelie. Something like a cheap HK auto level mems 6axis gyro for a plane or coaxial helicopter. Even a cheap auto-level hobby king drone gyro. They are like 20 dollars on eBay or hobby king. Rate gyros will not try to bring it back to level only auto-level gyros will. Try it again with a 6-axis gyro and you will see it will work and not be twitchy. Cheers Buddy! Love your videos, you're the BEST!

Hey Kevin.. you have to transform it like a sort of segway.. so if you want to do a nose wheelie, you should have heavy tyres in the front and a lot of weight at the front bumper level. This should allow you to get more time in nose wheelie 😉

That was entertaining! The hardware used was just to small. Most of them use mercury in a tiny glass tube inside. So imagine a tiny cup of water and trying to not let it tilt to move the water. By increasing the size of hardware it would eliminate the twitchy reaction. Just like the broom theory you showed how its easier to balance larger items, yet same theory in the actual hardware ( Gyro ). We at The Collector RC love your channels. Keep up the enthusiasm and good work.
@ParRagon-

The problem with that is that you still don't sit in the rc car. You can't feel the change and react accordingly. In this matter the gyro is replaced by mike paired with much much much more weight of the monster truck. Because of the weight and length of the monster truck the driver can react way more effectively

KEV, I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this or not cause there are almost 500 comments at this point, but I just watched your video and i love the idea but I think the biggest issue is the angle. You attached it perfectly up and down in line with the truck, but that's not where the truck balances at. You need to shim it to be in line with the angle of the balance point. I hope I'm making sense and you see this comment cause I'd love to see this idea work.

On monster trucks & real cars, 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, ect.... what your missing (Kevin), is the idea & usage of holding the “brake pedal”, plus the throttle in a delicate balancing act... like doing a slow wheelie on a 4-wheeler, 3-wheeler, or dirt bike: the normal position of a normal wheelie- the back brake(s) is your best friend for once the machine is in the air to it’s almost balanced point...

Smaller pinion as suggested, and locked diff so there is no play or speed difference also add some weight to the front, maybe a wheel balancer weight or something. Could cheat and have a mini wheelie bar at an angle underneath that you cant really see and better yet have it spring loaded so it will pop out when you go up.

You should have used the heli transmitter. The pitch/throttle stick as throttle for the car. It could make your response time much faster. Just make the curve so from the middle on the throttle channel going up is Forward and down is reverse. With some practice it could work. Also the gyro didn't work properly because you couldn't change the gain of the gyro. The dials on a gyro only change what it says. Limit is the endpoints of the servo and delay will delay the response time.

Maybe if you tried the gyro with either a sensored brushless motor or a brushed motor and ESC. I've read that sensorless brushless motors are not very responsive at low RPM.
@Chron0ClocK
@Chron0ClocK 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kev, a brushless censored motor with 12/87 gearing. the problem in this case is that your motor is brushless, but not censored so there just isn't a lot of fine control at lower RPM's without a censored motor. Coging I think it's called.
@MrCleanRC
@MrCleanRC 4 жыл бұрын
Have you switched it to head hold vs rate mode? Also use smaller tires for less twitchiness!!! Use the signal wire for gain adjust see if it works more finely thru the transmitter. Or try a helicopter transmitter.

Maybe put some lead in the front of the car to lower the center of gravity for the desired position. This should make the required reaction time lower by storing kinetic energy; that will possibly smooth put the peaks of the throttle.

Cool vid!! I think the problem with the "gyro" is the movement of the suspension along with all the excessive driveline slack or play that's just not present in a more precise and lightweight helicopter setup, maybe if you removed the shocks and replaced them with solid rods to lock the chassis and axle as one unit and tightened up the gear mesh a bit you might have a better chance of achieving good balance since you're not actually in the truck to feel what's going on physically .. Hey, if you're gonna cheat why not go all out !!! Lol

@kampkrieger

It cant work, it is just a sloppy PID loop that tries to stand up straight. But what you are trying to achieve is two things: staying straigt while not moving much. If your gyro works perfectly and keeps the thing straigt, there is no constraint that keeps it from speeding up, then your speed saturates until the gyro can no longer prevent falling over by speeding up more. So you need a second PID loop around it that dictates the target angle to the inner loop that tries to reach a speed of 0. You could mount the gyro on a servo arm that is controlled by the throttle value (in the output of it) that will try to set speed to 0 and if speed is greater 0 it will turn the gyro and therfore set the target angle. But you also would need some delay or a very slow servo.
