With two days left before UAW members will strike, the Big Three and the union continue negotiating in hopes of reaching a deal and avoiding the picket line. So far, the automakers' offers have fallen short. Will they reach an agreement before the deadline?

Blame the greedy big 3 for that. Not the uaw members fighting for the middle class & concessions that were "temporary paused" until the big 3 became profitable again. We feel for our suppliers, local restaurants, service industry, etc. If we do nothing now, we will never get it back. We must fight corporate greed & bring wages/benefits up for the middle class!

The companies have stated the # of jobs (or engineering hours) required to produce EV's will be less #1. That inherently should REDUCE the cost of the car. #2 the Electric Drive Motors used in EVs (replacing engines and transmissions) are a "purchased" item (Not built by a UAW worker). The cost of vehicles are up 30% in the past 4 years due to companies gouging consumers. Workers wages have only increased approx. 6% (1.5% per yr. ) Remember: theres ALWAYS 2 sides to every story.

This contract is very important to several cities. Unions are the answer to Democrats and Republicans complaints about the 1% keeping all the money. The hardest thing going into negotiations for the workers is that we dont own any good politicians. We have the money, but corruption has given to criminals instead of buying the right politicians. Now the workers are behind the corporate side on lobbying, i mean purchasing a good politician.

This will affect every worker across the board whether you realize it or not. These Republican trickle-down economic policies do not work. Nor do 'Right-to-work policies that strip folks of their freedom to organize and utilize collective bargaining agreements. When the CEO and board brags about record profits quarterly and annually. Those workers at the bottom deserve compensation, too. Workers don't live to work, they work to make a living. This is the 1% vs. the 99%! As a union member, I stand with the UAW, and even if I wasn't, I'd still stand up. The numbers are on our side, and it's time to fight for what we're owed......

@ANTAGONIST1776 The recession of 2008 was created by GW Bush's tax breaks to the wealthy. It's like Trump saying, "Mexico's paying for the border wall." When has a Republican been fiscally responsible? Ever created a balanced budget or had a surplus. NEVER!!!!! Republicans govern for the 1%, not "we the people." Thomas Jefferson wrote, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." Probably one of the few Republicans who knew what they were talking about. Maybe John McCain, Liz Chenny, and Adam Kinzinger are a few other examples......

In a whole quarter of sales, GM usually only posts a 2 - 3 billion in profit. There is NO way they lose 5 billion in 10 days. Sorry, that's just a flat out lie. If it were true, think about it logically. It would be stupid on GM's part to resist the contract. Why throw away billions for no reason. If GM gave the workers what they wanted, it wouldn't amount to half of that 5 billion loss, the workers would be happy, strike would be avoided, and vehicles would continue to drive out of the plants. So why in the world NOT invest that into you work force. Why be stubborn about it and lose it. Give the UAW what theyve EARNED over the last 4 contracts where they've taken loses and concessions to help make the big three profitable (quarter of a trillion dollars in profit) and make them whole again. Or, are the big three just spouting out BS. I think we all know the answer.

Learn the facts! You can thank the greedy big 3 auto makers for those car prices! It sucks for everyday middle class people trying to make a living. Our cost to each of these companies is between 4-7% on average. That's it! It's pathetic on how much they nickel & dime us. No one wants to strike. If the big 3 gave us reasonable offers there would be no reason to mention a strike but we have to fight for our fair share. The corporate greed in this country is totally out of control! We should be able to afford the mid-level vehicles we build, have job security, & a retirement for our worn out bodies after all of the repetitive work we do & shit we breathe in. I feel for all of the big 3 suppliers & all of the other businesses around these plants that will suffer if a strike occurs or/and if we, workers, don't end up with sufficient pay increases.
