Please I think both Joey and Will were surprised at how much faster he was going into that turn. Otherwise they would have opted to pass/let pass instead of nearly wreck. What they both thought was a rub ended up being a punt. It wasn't even close how much faster Joey was at that point but they both [thought] they were still racing each other.

The nostalgia just hit me in the feels right now. My older brother worked for Ford Quality Care in the mid 90's and became a fan of Dale Jarrett when he rocked the red white and blue QC scheme. I always looked up to my brother growing up, which got me into Nascar and wanted to be a fan of DJ as well. But there's something about growing up in the 90's, as a kid, with the love for fast cars, colors that stood out, young talent which sparked my interest right away with the badass racing name of Jeff Gordon! Seeing this video of Jeff's interview sparked so much nostalgia! Just hearing him speak, brings back so many memories of his past racing interviews, as well as when times where youngsters like many of us didn't care about anything else in the world but waiting for Sundays to watch him take on the toughest names in Nascar, and looking forward to staying up late at night Saturday nights watching races like the Coca Cola 600 in Charlotte! I appreciate Nascar and HMS for allowing Jeff to show his input in situations such as many that he had back in the day and giving his honest opinion on the racing situations! We miss you as a driver Jeff!

@@justinpetersen5273 it's complicated but unfortunate. Jeff Gordon was never a great closer when it came to finishing the season strong for of his 4 titles only 1 of them he finished strong that being 1998. That translated directly into the chase. Unlike Tony Stewart who won the title under the old system the 2005 Chase format and the 2011 format he simply could not adjust. I believe Jeff Gordon is the Goat and best all around driver that accomplished the most on all and any type of track with no exception and still has the most crown jewel wins by a wide margin. I simply didn't see any weakness in Jeff Gordon's game. Nascar imo destroying the a points format for a Mickey format I do believe has left many titles in question as to what is Mickey and what isn't. Point being Jeff Gordon should at the very least have seven titles imo.

Joey was just a lot faster than the 24 at the end there. He had been running quicker lap times the last 8-10 laps and closed up what had been a near 2 second gap to nothing with about 2 laps to go. On the last re-start, Byron ran Joey up in to the wall and was able to get the lead in doing so. Logano decided to save his tires and put on a charge at the end,..catch him and then use and insurance policy bump and run for the win. If Byron had the performance to win,..Joey wouldn't have been close enough to bump and run. He didn't and lost.

I’ve been watching nascar for over 30 years. I was mark martin fan when he was sporting strohs light as a sponsor. I can tell from a spectator viewpoint it has gotten dirtier through the years. Not saying people didn’t get wrecked for the win back on the day. But the culture was so much different. Guys came up building and wrenching and paying for their mistakes. It was their wallets taking a hit. Not some multi millionaire owner and huge sponsors. Ownership is the biggest issue of today’s young drivers. They don’t take ownership of the cars they drive, they just get in stock and steer and hope for the best. It’s a different style of racing that is going to lead to a penalty system like on F1 in the near future once these owners get sick of writing checks.

Have to agree. The intentional punt into the wall or just a spin shows no true skill. Bumping and even putting out of the groove is fine but not a full spin or punt into the wall. That being said, I think Byron slowed down way more in the corner because he knew Joey would bump him. Joey hit him too hard and sent the 24 in the wall. Not really Joey's fault when the guy basically stops in front of you.
