such strange armonies, don't know if i like it or not 🧐, also why so percussive and vertical, specially at the beginning?? i have it already in my mind with a crescendo and diminuendo, that'd be much more listenable, although i don't know this composer i cannot say why you are playing it like this but most likely you are following the score. ah btw i wanted to tell you in the previous live but i forgot, your audio is amazing, seems like a professional recording studio for classical pianists, do you do any post production on it or do you manage to record it so perfectly?

The percussiveness is probably just my piano 😂 I was putting in a good cresc and dim through that first phrase (but also each note has a tenuto and staccato mark, plus pedal), but keeping it mf and not playing it incredibly soft. There is a class coming out on this one later this week. This set of Preludes is usually what is given to students before beginning work on Chopin's Op. 28, or at least before too many of Op. 28 are played. Thanks for your comment about the audio! I spent around 15 years doing professional audio engineering for classical musicians, so I own a whole bunch of gear. Yes, there's post processing on both the previously recorded vids as well as the livestream... I can't go quite as detailed with the live broadcast sound, but I get as close as I can to my standalone vids on the streams.

@@serwoolsley I hope you’ll give some of the other pieces in the set a chance! I picked this one first as it’s one of the more challenging ones to interpret… and Saturday’s class is going to focus on that aspect of it. Many of the others are more typically tonal.

​@@PianistAcademy1 would the una corda pedal be helpful to alleviate the percussiveness? On some instruments I've found that by "half-pedalling" (or "tweaking") the una corda pedal I can find the spot where the softest part of the felts (i.e. the "lands" as opposed to the harder grooves) are striking the strings. On some instruments -- depending on the conditioning of the felts -- the effect is very noticeable. That may not be a "kosher" use of the una corda pedal, as I think the intent is mostly to move the hammer groves to hit two strings instead of three and not to change the timbre so much, but I tend to "game" it to get the sound I want (no shame ... ;-)

@@aBachwardsfellow I already had una corda partly depressed here, because without it it's almost abrasive, even at pianissimo haha ... hence why I'm getting new hammers! I've been forced to play pretty much everything under forte with the una corda... and then I completely lose the choice to have anything any darker when I'd like it.
