Truly a poetic end to such a great series this would make a funny moment of William ever makes a cameo in marines and just mentions yeah he killed king of the pirates

A bit of a head cannon I've had for a while is that I believe Roger actually invited William onto his crew for the final voyage, but William said no. So, when William saw the man that could have been his captain be named king of the pirates, he regretted not joining, and felt he could never become great. As a result, when William dealt the final blow on Roger, that was proof that he could be great, thus bringing closure to him.
