Willow, the character, had so much power- the strength of slayers, self healing, teleportation, magic barriers, etc. Shame she was kept as a sidekick most of the series.

WRO - She literally brought Buffy back to life, i'm pretty sure the majority of fans thought of her as more than just a sidekick after season two when she gave Angel his soul back. Xander was more of the sidekick. Besides it was years before Joss Whedon probably realized that one of his good guys was getting more powerful than the bad. lol

In the final episode she is called a "goddess". I think that is leaps and bounds beyond a sidekick. As a side note, Willow could kick Glory's butt so bad now :)

Buffy even admitted that Willow was more powerful than her, but power does not equal leadership. The slayer's divine role is to be the leader, that's not a choice, that was Buffy's destiny. So it remained, despite how powerful Willow became. Her role and accomplishments were not cast aside, and she even took charge when Buffy was not around, but she always saw Buffy as the leader, because that's who Buffy is. Buffy had the intuition, the visions, saw the truth that others didn't...

whats funny is that willow isn't just a witch she actually commands magic itself its why shes considered the most powerful witch in the western hemisphere her power is limitless because it isn't hers theres no pool shes drawing from its just magic itself doing what she wills. if you watch you'll notice there's been times when she literally wills things to happen no spell needed: returning angels soul (the first time) willing a ghost to be solid so Buffy could pummel it, and lets not forget forcing all that dark magic into herself when she absorbed the knowledge from though's books no contract needed its also why willows soul has never come into question. :)

Somewhat incorrect. She doesn't "will" magic itself until Season 8 in the comics. Before that she is a practicing witch that becomes the most powerful in her category. The power of The Slayer could compete with Willow depending on the battle. The source of The Slayer is an "Old One" which supersedes any Witch. How The Slayer uses her power however is a different debate. Sineya would've killed Willow in a heart beat. So would Buffy if she chose to knock her head off instead of engaging in combat. Willow was never physically stronger than Buffy, even in season 6 when she gave herself strength it didn't compare to Buffys, otherwise every high level Witch would just turn themselves into a Slayer. Doesn't work like that.

@@YoungAmericaRecords well not all Old ones superceded witches powers cause it was ancient god level socerer that locks away alot of old ones after the fall of the illyria and other greater old ones. They also were part of the group that created the first slayer. And buffy did state at the end of season 7 willow was more powerful than all the shadow men put together. And giles said it no mystical force can stop her.

@@camgeorge6222 You can’t take things so literally, “The Judge” from season two was “indestructible” according to Giles as well but guess what, Buffy blew him to bits. Just bc Giles said no mystical force can stop her doesn’t mean it’s final law. It’s more so for the drama of whatever is going on. He also said about Faith “We have a rogue Slayer on our hands, I can’t think of anything more dangerous” does that mean that Faith is now more dangerous than Glory or Illyria just bc Giles said so? Lolol

I'm not a TV writer, but in my opinion, Willow only works because she's not "the" main character. In a way, I think Buffy has to stay "the same", more or less -- Willow is just some random other character, they have more freedom to play with her. Also, there's no problem if Willow doesn't do much for some episodes (Buffy is supposed to be the final problem solver anyway) and just "shines" every now and then -- you can't make her "shine" in every episode.

This is the main character who has changed the most over the course of the series, from a simple girl, modest, inconspicuous, to a self-confident, effective in battle, and sometimes even a dangerous girl...However, she still remained the same, just Willow.

I love Willow, in all honesty she's 'good's' best trump card. She brought Buffy back from the dead, she gave Angel his soul back, she made all the potential's in the world become Slayers. Buffy, Angel, Faith and Spike are all Champions but Willow's on a whole other playing field with Glory, Illyria and Hamilton (if she wants to). Which is great because the badies always get stronger and stronger.

all the characters have strong but different personalities, especially later in the seasons. Buffy becomes very grim and serious as her responsibility as the slayer takes its toll, willow stops being the goofy loser, matures, and falls in love but then suffers the loss of her loved one and succumbs to pure rage leading to evil. Xander while trying to maintain his jokey exterior becomes the ordinary everyman fighting for survival and to prove he can contribute to the team and help save the world

4x13, "The I in Team". Spike has an encounter with a group of Initiative guys, they shoot a tracer at him. The video is at Giles place when he turns to the Scoobies for help and they work on removing the tracer. Willow connection: she tries to "ionize" the atmosphere so the Initiative can't locate the tracer while they are operating on Spike, but the spell gets a bit too much "juice"...

Faved. Great, great vid on showing Willows growth, and awesomeness. Cuz lets face it, Willow was badass!!!! The only thing I felt it needed was alil more of the good parts. Like in the season finale, she enveloped all that GOOD magic, and it turned her hair all white. Oh man that was a great scene! lol I'm getting besides myself. But yess, I love this video!

Well, she's certainly had some development over the series :-) I also tend to think that since she's not the MAIN main character, they had a bit more freedom in developing and changing her (like her time as Dark Willow --- they had to bring in Faith to get a 'dark slayer', and clearly put a limit on how "dark" they would let Buffy go). Plus, she doesn't have to save the day in every episode, which leaves more room to give her a special treat every now and then

I'm not saying Buffy (or another "main" character) can't change; I just think they have more freedom with the "not the mainest main" characters. As for a Willow spinoff: that's exactly the thing; other shows have the same problem. Take Division: they are meant to be the awesomest intelligence group ever - but in order to have stories, their opponents best them on a regular basis. And you can't really change that; as for Willow, they added the 'using my powers is dangerous" in S7 as a workaround

I know I'm still a freak, but you make me feel better. I'm not too up to speed on Buffy, but I've always enjoyed Willow- and she has served me as my best understanding portal into lesbian sexuality. All the actual lesbians I know say "What? Really? She's cute but not for everyone...." but I prefer to think of her as a explanation, simplistic though it may be. I just find her OBNOXIOUSLY ADORABLE. Which is not that great in a girlfriend, but it's awesome for a TV character.

Just curious, how did Willow get her powers since she's not a witch right. Also from the start of Buffy the vampire slayer Willow is just a normal girl. So how did Willow get her powers or what? Buffy doesn't stay the same though. Compare S1 Buffy to S7 Buffy. They are almost two different people. Aside from some wise cracks she grew up quite a bit. As for Willow I can easily see her holding her own in a spin-off, particularly if slightly more adult and dark (not Dark Willow mind you - though we did see far too little of that awesomeness). The only real problem would be that the character is just too powerful. They'd have to make every villiain a god or smth for it to be a fair fight.
