Love that you made this. I so could have used something this simple when I was pulling my hair out. Aside from the lack of documentation on the capacitors, Signature Solar has become so popular thanks to your forum and DIYers' recommendations, that I don't know that their staffing is up to the influx of orders. They absolutely did their best to help us make it right after I put my foot down on being overlooked for multiple shipments. We're happy overall.

Thank you Will for all of your wonderful videos! Together, they represent a priceless knowledge base on this subject and your upbeat demeanor, even in the face of not the greatest discovery, is always welcome and sometimes entertaining! You and another KZfaq guy (who builds cool stuff) present some comical stories of dealing with battery sources in countries very different from our own. I'll simply say that facts don't care about feelings and some suppliers just can't appreciate that. I am writing this as I sit in my tiny RV where I live completely off grid, in the middle of the city and hear my propane fueled generator humming away in the background. After surviving on a pair of huge 12 volt SLA RV batteries wired in parallel, a 30 y/o 600/1200 watt Chinese inverter, and my Westinghouse Wgen3600DF generator (with R/C!) for a little over a year, I purchased a PowMR brand "Solar Inverter Charger" (POW-LVM3.0K-24V) and one Chins 24 volt/100Ah lithium battery and am awaiting my own decision on solar panels. I'm considering higher output (200 watt

@@phillmckrakin2518 I'm in my 40s....I can ALMOST relate. I look at it like this....I am going to be paying someone something every month for heating, cooling and electricity, might as well be paying the mortgage company and have something to show for it. Besides....doesnt have to be a 20 year line of credit. Make it 10 or 15. We have been programmed wrong. We don't bat an eye buying a vehicle for 40 or 50 grand only to be worn out and worth 20% if we are lucky of what we paid for it by the end of the term. Buying/building a power plant for your property appreciates over time in two ways. Both in rising energy costs and in you property value.

Totally agree! These need to be manufactured in North America so that we're not as reliant on overseas; you'd think shipping costs alone would make up the difference. But I'm sure it still comes down to labour costs. Thanks for this quick overview!

Will, the reason why they are not made in the USA simply comes down to economics. The average salary in China is about $16,000 USD per year. Compared to about $56,000 in the U.S. Also, the cost of an employee in the U.S. is quite high (in addition to the salary paid - ask any business owner). We Americans, me included, demand high salaries but also demand paying the lowest price we can for our goods. If the manufacturing of the item requires humans to touch it, it will be far more expensive from countries like the U.S., Canada, Germany, etc... It could be argued that you are getting a better product, "you get what you pay for", but most people don't care about that. For most, not all, but most, it comes down to price. There is a lot of information about this subject out there if you want to be put to sleep. You provide a great service to this community. Keep it up.

Everyone focuses the hourly wage, but not the taxes, grift,regulations, and as you mentioned, the cost of renting the tax slave from the government. The cost of shipping one of those batteries to the US is about $500 all included, so why aren't we making them here? Because the Chinese are pro business and the USA is not. Sad but true...
@thomaspayne7800
@thomaspayne7800 10 ай бұрын
Perhaps we can fix that by instead of paying our taxes we pool the money together within our communities with people we trust, make everyone there a manager, buy gold and silver make paper money out of that backed by those precious metals then fund building these manufacturers to then produce this batteries at a set price. Idk just a thought

I wish they'd just drop the tariff and we could buy these without all the additional tax. The government dumps money into green initiatives but won't give us normal citizens access to cheap energy storage subsidized by China. What are they really trying to accomplish by giving us a tax credit then adding a bunch of tax to import the hardware. It'd be awesome to buy one of these for under $1000 bucks and take some energy off the grid.

THanks again Will I always learn from you videos. I converted my 36 volt EZGO TXT to Lithium and love it, although there were some issues and it was a pain in the beginning like they sent the first pack with there charge (cheep) and they neglected to set the charge voltage to high 58 volts. So I returned the whole thisng and they resent and it was damaged. they sent a new everything it just took a month or more each time but ultimately it all works. Occasionally it just stops for a few seconds Im pretty sure it is either over current or over temp. but it clears relatively quickly. THe BMS in my pack is not the greatest Im sure there using better ones now. There was a weird problem I got a good charger to replace the Big Battery charger with a Lester Sumitt II but I could not get it to charge all the way, I worked with Lester for about a month, my hope is that they create a profile that works . My wife has a 48Volt Club Car when those batteries die I will probably replace with EG4-WP it should fit I think. If any one has advice please share I will post he same on the forum. What is your relationship with Big Battery now I know you had issues early.

This might sound strange, but I think a lot of people do not understand what a "Server Rack Battery" is and so they do not bother to click these type of very useful videos. They need to understand it is just a typical shelf (i.e. rack) that holds several batteries connected in series or parallel to provide electrical storage power. A very simple thing. Once they understand, you will get many more hits. Bty, I love my Dewalt Rack!!!

My 36v Golf Cart is working great with raw cells (LF280K) and a DALY BMS (250A Smart). Takes work to make the battery bay ready to receive the pack, and some basic water proofing/shedding, but more capacity/less money if you're willing to do some work to build the box. That's a video right there if I've ever heard of one :).

Yeah I've actually connected it without precharge, had a huge spark and it worked great. I've actually done it multiple times off camera 😂 but some people are having a lot of issues with it on the forum sadly.

@@WillProwse Maybe with the higher volume, it has uncovered issues more quickly. Watching AmbitionStrikes video with CurrentConnected, they mentioned that the SOK battery pre-charge system was not enough to handle charging a pair of Victron Quatro. They manually charged with a resistor before making the connection.

Hi Will firstly Ive learned much from your videos so many thanks for doing them. I would like to ask some advice. I live in the UK so I realise things maybe a little different to your place. I have solar panels on the rear of my property approximately 3.7kw. It is grid tied at the moment. I would very much like to add some batteries to save some of the energy produced over night. I am unsure whether I need to change my inverter. I am an older person but very keen to learn and understand. thanks for what you do. In my view you are an excellent presenter and educationalist. I have really enjoyed most if not all of your content to this point. You deserve all that you make in my opinion. Regards Colin

Thanks for this look at these batteries. The pros and cons are really good to hear. The little rant about the lack of USA manufacturing is SPOT on. We coule be making them here except we have too much corporate greed and far to many C-suite people who have to keep all the money.

After my RV Solar system 20 years ago, I am building a house, and the solar system is part of it. Thanks for the video on the battery server. As a Chinese American, I can explain why China made these. 1. Chinese salaries are 1/4 of American salaries. 2. Raw battery material has been acquired by China worldwide for 20 years non-stop; 3. Strong government encouragement to local province to build the next new industry. 4. Green power lowers smog in large cities. 5. China wants to be independent of oil from the Middle East, which America controls. 5. Battery is a relatively low-tech industry, unlike Semiconductor AI chips. 6. Low regulation at all levels. 7. 1.4 billion people produce highly competitive engineering skills and companies. 8. Chinese culture generally likes cheap and usually competes in price (good value). 9. The Chinese government is trying to bring another 400 million people from poor to middle class, so there is a lot of cheap labor. 10. Central planning produces a long-term industrial plan, especially for infrastructure-build like the Silk Road. Like other Asians, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan follow Confucian philosophy: working hard and delaying gratification.

Another fantastic video thank you Will. You mentioned trying to get your hands on some Pylontech batteries for testing. This would be much appreciated as I have just purchased two US3000c Pylontech batteries. We can just about get them in the UK, I ordered and paid in early April and delivered September 7th. This is no fault of the supplier at least they were honest enough to sell for msrp unlike some others charging 50% more. I would be very interested in what the God of Lifepo4 thinks of them! Also they seem to support several comunication protocols, so it would be interesting which inverters communicate best. I've just bought the Sofar me3000sp inverter/charger for AC coupling to an existing grid tied Solar panel system that I can't modify as it was free and doesn't belong to me. Like so many in the UK, it was installed by an Investment House to capitalise on high Government Feed In Tariffs that were axed long ago. Their meter is just after the inverter so I can use all the power generated and they still get paid the Feed In Tarriff. Therefore, more coverage of AC coupled systems would also be appreciated. Thank you for providing excellent content, without your guidance I wouldn't have known lifepo4 chemistry is the way to go👍

interesting on the overcurrent issues with the single battery vs multiple. I just tested a powerqueen, single 12v, 100ah, running through a Roarbatt 2000watt inverter, on a ryobi circular saw, and a Rigid Table saw. Both showed mid 300's inrush, but both worked fine. I was surprised, and the circular saw was running at 1100 watts continuously, which is pretty close to powerqueen's 1200 watt stated limit. It's going to make for a great combo for a mobile solar generator.

Hi Will. I love watching your videos. Hey, my wife and I are in our 60's and I'm really set on getting wind/solar power. I've watched about 1/3 of your videos but haven't yet found one that answers my simple questions. Maybe you could make a video. The questions: Where does a person start ? There's so many parts and different kinds of panels and all the rest that make up a system. What is the cheapest way to get started (we're on fixed retirement incomes)? What do we purchase to get started and from whom ? It should really be a system we can expand on as we go without having to purchase things like converters over and over again. Thanks Will !
