The most underrated S&C channel on KZfaq. I love the long format videos in combination with your no nonsense short ones. Could you not edit your squat form so it skips the top of each rep/start of the next. It might just be my opinion but I’d rather see the full length video of the set personally rather than it looking like a loop of one rep. 500 for 8 is savage

Taking your ego out of it I think refers to not getting emotionally attached to the outcome of an argument or debate, not making it about yourself. People who have their ego in the conversation present their ideas as a defense of themselves. They don't want to be wrong because they don't want to feel bad about themselves. You can detach while still thinking you are right and knowing your reasons. If you can update your views after being presented with evidence that conflicts with what you think without feeling attacked, then you know your ego isn't in it. That's how I see it

Like others said, I came for the squats, stayed for the philosophy. I agree with the open minded point because logically it doesn’t make sense for anyone to go into a discussion with a weak stance. Better to be wrong with strong convictions and lose because at least that shows based on your current knowledge and skills that is the best you had to bring than to go in wishy washy and switch side the moment someone finds a small crack in your argument, meaning you didn’t critically think to begin with. Subbed.

We should distinguish between the low handle trap bar dead vs the high handle. The high handle is basically a quarter squat variant. The low handle is a true DL variant.

I really like the point you made on keeping it simple (Why xyz? Because it makes you faster/stronger/jump higher, ...) but it also contradicts the point on trap bar deadlifts imho. You could perfectly take the example you gave with Zercher squats, and replace it with trap bar deadlifts, and it would hold up just as well. On a different note, why do you clip the squats? (And the jumps for that matter.) Force of habit from the short form content?

Hey man i notice recently in my olympic weightlifting training when using the bounce in the high bar back squat that my calves are starting to hurt. I've probably tried every stretch out there and I dont think it is a mobillity issue because I can do pause squats with no pain and sit in a deep squat forever. I think this is because I'm not good at using the stretch reflex since im a newer weight lifter. And I also dont really feel my quads unless im front squating. (No pain with front squat btw). Have you ever had to deal with calf pain while squating too? If so how did u fix it? Also do you have any tips for learning the bounce/stretch reflex for the high bar back squat?

Great video. I agree with you on a lot of what you said...even the Candance Owen stuff. I think I would fight you on your claim about Hex Bar deadlifts. If you are having to train a group of kids with little to no experience with a straight bar, it is much easier to get them started building strength. If it's one on one or even a small group I would agree the straight bar is superior. I'm curious, is your gripe only with French Contrast or Contrast Training?

Talking between sets looks like a great format for you, good videos. Sidebar: I popped my lower back a week ago on light deadlifts with 160 kg. I'm reasonably certain it's because my right hip joint is "tighter" than my left, causing a noticeable shift and rotation in squatting and hinging. I'm sure I've had that for a while, just didn't notice cause I don't film myself much. Do you have any tips or suggestions for the hip issue moving forward? Obviously not as medical advice, but maybe from some experience. Whoever else reads this and has some suggestion, I'm all ears.

Great video! My point of view of the trap deadlift is that if you put the COM(or the axis) of the trap bar align with the lateral malleolus it will force the lifter to dorsiflex the ankle which could led to a squat pattern, and if put the COM(or the axis) of the trap bar align with the midfoot,then the weight will be too far away from the body. In addition to that, I really appreciate your thoughts on the French contrast. Sorry for my English.😅

Regarding your take on access to presentation of ideas: You are riding a fine line with your take on "limiting access". I'm fine with the opinion that certain ideas should be respected, while others should be disrespected. That's absolutely true. However, where my disagreement with you begins is the idea that other individuals cannot decide for themselves what should be respected or disrespected. You, nor any other individual/entity, should be allowed to control what ideas/speech other individuals can choose to hear. One of the main premises of free speech is that the audience (other individuals) gets to decide what they do and do not want to hear. Not the government, nor anybody/any other establishment/any other institution. No matter how bad/stupid they are. In fact, freedom of speech most particular and especially applies to that kind of speech.
@willratelle8027
@willratelle8027 2 ай бұрын
That’s called free speech absolutism, which I don’t support. You and I have a different point of view here, and either way, one of us is imposing a point of view on the other. And we absolutely have a framework to define parameters of what is and isn’t acceptable speech, in terms of guiding morality, the Bible does that for us.

@NotMyFault2

@@willratelle8027 Human rights are binary. So yes, free speech is absolute. Each individual has their own parameters that defines what is and is not acceptable to them. You don't get to define what other people do and don't find acceptable to listen to. It's almost like you completely dismissed/dodged my point. Also, I don't have to respect your religion or your belief in religion. Therefore, I don't have to adhere to the bible's outline of morality when it comes to speech. Does that fall outside of your "parameters of acceptability"? Because that's exactly what the founding fathers sought to avoid when drafting the Bill of Rights. Why do you hate freedom so much?

F*ck you too, Will!! Jk. I am definitely one of those coaches that says soreness isn’t the *only* indicator of a good workout. Like your take, it absolutely CAN indicate a good workout. It just needs context. Soreness, sweating, fatigue, confidence, how much you lifted, etc all are very real indicators, but soreness isn’t the ONLY. I think from a gen pop perspective saying soreness isn’t the ONLY indicator helps because most people are starting from a near zero level of work capacity and competency in the gym and will likely get sore from very little effort, so they create a value system to judge your training with metrics like soreness, calories burned, how much they sweat, which leads them down a delicate and unreliable feedback system once they acquire some sort of baseline level of strength/fitness. Some of these “isms” in practice are actually helpful when you’re talking to coaches who have regular people paying them per session, but when you’re talking about training for yourself, get sore because it feels good and is good. I don’t know man. Who cares.
