That's exactly what I did last year - only with a Fujifilm X-T1. While everyone was upgrading to iPhone 12 I sold my 11 Pro and bought the camera and 35/1.4. Haven't ever gotten such beautiful images before, despite me doing photography part time almost half my life and trying out around 20 different cameras through the years. Now expanding into film as well I'm really looking forward to try Blackmagic sooner or later!

This camera has made me appreciate what filmmaking is all about. I had stepped up to the 4K - had more to do with control of the camera by the ATEM than image quality. With this camera, you can learn not to chase pixels. You can learn all the basics. The new lenses are really meant for newer and much heavier cameras. I stepped back to the BMPCC and regrouped. I now use manual vintage Angenieux lenses that produce amazing images when paired with the BMPCC. Now collecting dust are newer auto MFT lenses. Now, this camera comes alive in your hands. Shoot RAW into Davinci Resolve Studio 17. Learn to use your filters, Learn all the basics. You now have total control of the content of your videos. The real message is to decide what you want to be the end result of your work. This camera with vintage lenses delivers a look that cannot be duplicated chasing pixels, technology, and spending $$$. I do not have any aspirations of creating feature films. Yet the results are spell bounding in their quality. HD is more than enough for posting and sharing. Most of the time I have to downsize to 720p to send or upload for friends and family. Remember, enough is enough, go back to the basics. Vintage lenses complete the bargain when combined with this camera. Both of my BMPCCs cost under $500 - patience and determination is the guideword in pursuing one. I just picked up a mint Angenieux 15-150mm Anamorphic Parfocal Zoom lens in the original box for $305. What will your zoom lens for the 4K/6K will cost you? Enough said. Also thanks for the info on the SD cards - I use the Kingston 512K in both of my BMPCC shooting raw at 24fps. Another important step is getting a cheap reliable external battery setup. I am using a small rig battery plate with Sony NP-F970 high capacity batteries for external power into the DC in. I never worry about a low battery again. Again, affordable option. Thanks to Will, for inspiring me to take a step back and just stick with the basics and learn the craft.

You did an awesome job brother. I'm with you. These new age wanna be DPs are too lazy to create. They are caught up on camera manufacturer hype and any large number with a K at the end of it. SMDH...They want to rely on the camera to do everything and they just hit record button. I come from film. Where your camera gives you what you design by the way you light it and create with it. I shot a full feature with the Canon 60D and till today, no one believes I shot that with a 60D...Some said Sony F3, some said Red Scarlet. But I shot it with a 60D. Camera doesn't make a film, is the person behind the camera that creates the image and a camera is just a tool to captures it.

Once again, great video. Your presentation is concise, informative and it is easy to see your passion for the craft of filmmaking. The color science of this reviewed camera, coupled with the internal Raw capabilities, and the price point, make it a great option for many indie filmmakers. My mind set has always been "It's not the camera, it's the shooter"; a "Master of Light" can make something cinematic with any camera. That said, if someone doesn't already have a high quality camera, then this is a great option, albeit, as you stipulated, a little longer learning curve than some other options, meaning DSLR's. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. You never fail to hold my interest from beginning to end.

Thanks for the great video on the original BMPCC. Especially addressing low light with this camera. I’ve recently expanded my creative media agency with services in video and filmmaking. Even within my budget limitations I was able to purchased 4 of the original pocket cameras at a price that I consider to be a steal. I recently started shooting music videos and local TV commercials, as a one-man production, I’ll set up all 4 cameras, one fully rigged camera on a tripod, one camera on a slider, one camera on a gimbal and a fourth camera on a shoulder rig. During a shoot I don’t have the need to strip down a camera from the tripod and re-rig it for the slider or balance it on a gimbal, Using multiple cameras this way, gives me freedom to quickly choose/change angles and shots during production...moving from one camera to another and then back-and-forth.

@@WillvonTagen does it work well with a gimbal? I'm considering getting a BMPCC for a documentary project that will be mostly shot with a gimbal or a tripod, and a bit worried about the lack of autofocus in an uncontrolled setting. The gimbal would solve the stabilisation issues but wondering if that doesn't make it more difficult to keep the image in focus? Thanks so much in advance if you have a minute to answer!

Really enjoyed the video. I've had my bmpcc since 2013 and the one issue I've yet to resolve is battery life. I haven't seen many people exploring the Juicebox Magic Power 2.0 and I'm curious if that's because there is something less than ideal about it or if it isn't well known. The price is comparable to the solution you've put in this video and it seems to be more of an all-in-one solution, which I think would be easier for mounting.

As a lover and owner of both the BMPCC and it's big 2.5k brother, your videos continue to inspire and fuel my creative senses. I have often thought about upgrading to a "newer" Blackmagic (say the 4k or even 6k pro), I am very put off by the newer Color Science of either of them. I know they are powerful and very useful camera's in their own right, but I just cannot justify what the point would be other than the bragging rights of saying I'm now shooting in a higher resolution. Your thoughts?

Wow, thank you! Yes, the channel is pretty new and I am only doing it in my spare time right now. Thanks for the support! The a7iii is a great camera, but I have never been a fan of Sony's color science--especially that you have to shoot in such a high ISO to get the most from Log. I think it depends on what your Cine needs will be. This is definitely an outstanding option and gives some of the best images possible, but as I say--it can be a bit tricky when first starting off. If you have patience and can add some of the supplementary peripherals I mentioned I think it could definitely be a game changer for your output--and a nice variation from your Sony. Stay tuned, in a couple of days I am releasing a new video discussing the memory cards for this camera. Thanks again!

Most practical video I have seen so far. I am sick and tired of 4K UHD wearing me out! I don't need it, I don't want it! Finally someone who gets it. My most respected KZfaqrs have pushed 4K like a narcotic. I have a Sony A7ii that shoots 1080p and that is just fine. Getting a Sony Rx10 used. Guess what? It shoots 1080P also. No 4,6,8,12 K UHD B.S. Most who get into this fall into the trap of listening to the newest greatest must have tech geeks who push 4K. You just don't really need it in most cases. I am rather dubious about this camera, but it does have me curious. I would love to experiment with this. It looks very attractive. Do I want to drop everything else just for this? Hell no! But it is nice to have options, and yeah budget is a huge consideration. I can't buy a Sony a7S iii or the a7IV. Nor do I want too. 10 years from now maybe, but doubt it even then. I like the fact you learn the art with this camera and not the tech. I want to be in this realm. So this video this month tonight is the most relevant video I have seen. Excellent. Just subbed and liked your video. Nicely done!

Great to see this! Just ordered my OG pocket cinema camera and have a question. Seen and heard alot about the HDMI port being weak, do you advise still to use a an external monitor with clamps for the wire? If so which one you recommend?
@WillvonTagen
@WillvonTagen 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the HDMI Micro port generally works fine but it is extremely fragile--and if broken can cost more than the camera to replace. I suggest getting a camera cage that has "port cable locks" so that the cable cannot jiggle or get yanked. I used to have a "pigtail" that was a Micro-to-Normal HDMI adapter and I left that locked in so I only had to plug and unplug a normal sized cable. As for which monitor, it depends on your budget. SmallHD-501 is about the best in my book, but I have a Fotga A50T that only costs about 150-. The build quality feels very cheap but it is bright and accurate, and the price is certainly low.

@@noodlessoul8356, A Canon EOS 750D, is the best multipurpose camera I've ever seen, even by today's standards. Fact: Canon EOS DSLRs are commonly used to shoot b-roll for Marvel Comics movies. Out of the box, it's great for blogging and films. The video quality is so good that minimal post-production is necessary. Get it and a GOOD lens, and you can shoot anything. Also, it never overheats, the battery life is decent, and it shoots very well in low light. All you need is a few extra batteries, and you're set. You pick up a used body for around $500 and a cheap Canon 50mm lens for about $100.

@WillvonTagen
@WillvonTagen 4 жыл бұрын
Thats a good question. I think first and foremost focus on making the best film possible. If you accomplish that then finding a buyer should come fairly easily. Netflix is a GREAT goal, but don't spend too much time chasing the things you can't control--focus rather on what you can, like making the movie. I did some initial self distribution of both my movies and to be honest, that is where I made most of the money back on them. But having distribution will carry a lot of validity on its own and will help you down the road when working on future projects.

Will von Tagen It seems making film is really a passion you must have and not worry about making a living Doing it. It’s something that could happen but can we really count on making more than Our initial investment. I ask because I’m also a music producer and RnB soul singer and I’ve been making a good living selling my music from the trunk of my car like MC Hammer did, but I made a career out it since 1998... I sell 8 hours a day within a 50 mile radius of my home and I sell 40-90 CDs everyday. Plus I produce and mix records for other artist for a fee. Music Streams/Downloads And shooting music videos for other artist bring in other income... I tried selling my film from the trunk but the music seems to sales 70% more than the film. I’m not sure why, I’m guessing the people feel their getting a full album of 15 songs as opposed to 1 movie, so they have better odds of liking something for the cash they spent on an unknown artist/Film maker. But I’m only speculating. What’s your thoughts on this?
