Everyone hated this, but I absolutely loved the dark moody and strange feeling this movie had. Depp’s Willy Wonka was one of the most memorable characters from my childhood, which is among Jack Sparrow and Mad Hatter. And looking back at the story from my older self now, I also think it’s pretty great that Burton was essentially pointing out how we can become man-children if we don’t let go of sweet things from our childhood, or if we get crippled by a dependency on them. It’s an all too common issue nowadays.

@@hwasaitgirl7309 a lot of boomer reviewers bashed this movie because of the darker tone and being nothing alike the original 1970's original adaptation and was generally considered to be a soulless cashgrab Which is pretty ironic considering the facts that this movie not only stayed true to the source material its based upon, but also Roald Dahl's (the author of the original book) wife had creative input in the movie and stated Roald would've loved this movie especially considering how much he hated the 1970's version for being very off track from its source material
