A few years ago they adapted "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" into a musical in response to the success of the Matilda Broadway musical, and the way they approached this version was making creativity and imagination its central theme. Charlie's poverty makes him resourceful and he cultivates his imagination so he can make "something out of nothing," and in his interactions with Willy Wonka, he can understand, respect, and appreciate the Candyman's strange logic. Whereas with the parents and bratty kids. . . they don't get it.

What I really liked about this scene is Willy sat next to Charlie of all the guests during the boat ride, and even gave Charlie and Grandpa Joe chocolate from the river, which he previously didn't want anyone to touch or eat. This pretty much shows Willy liked Charlie the most of the guests and knew he was probably lonely and good hearted. He was even concerned over Charlie's health, saying how he looked starved to death

I'd say that psychologically Wonka is still a child. And this scene alone is a goldmine for quotes and hints that further imply this. He responds awkwardly to Mrs Beauregarde question as arguably any average young boy would if a woman made a reply that implied love. Moreover when Veruca says that Wonka told him he already said his speech about the chocolate he passively mocks the children for their height, something a child would do. Further times are when he gets over excited about showing the group the Inventing Room as a child would.

Gemathest Gemdone Considering how he never really had a childhood himself, I can understand why he would. I kinda feel sorry for Wonka. Rad D.R. Same with the original. On the original boat scene, most of the people were either scared or sick during the ride. Charlie and Grandpa Joe were excited in both movies. My guess is because neither Charlie really had much of a life. It was school and home and nothing more. The original he had a job can't remember about this version. But he had no friends or anything. And seemed like it was okay by him for the most part.

@@kathleenc8 Tim Burton tried to stick to the book as much as possible, Charlie never had a job in the book and because Grandpa Joe told him stories of the factory, it made him all the more excited to see what it was like even though he would never get to, let's not forget that even in the book, Willy Wonka did have some postive and child-ish vibes coming from him so Charlie was all the more excited. Honestly the boat tunnel was intended to be truly the and unsettling. Wonka was never a sane or benevolent man and I really loved the mostly accurate recreation of the book showing Wonka as a crazy, child endangering sociopath. While I love this one as well it tells the story of a different Wonka and a different history which is also good. I feel that the first one was just to tell the story of the book while this one was to update it and tell the story of Wonka and why he turned out the way he did.

Like milk. The dwarven community is already angry at Peter dinklage and the new Snow White movie for depriving them of work. Making all the Oompa-Loompas played by one single actor was a big mistake. And as for the boat ride in particular, the children are not acting realistic at all. They would be screaming their heads off with this boat ride. They are clearly just staring at a blue screen with a fan blowing in their faces.
