From my time using the pistol in the military, this was the locking block explanation I received. The locking block is the part most likely to fail due to design. In the field, it is much easier to have a spare locking block to get the pistol running again rather than a major pistol part. As a military firearms instructor, I have seen them break but usually after many thousands of rounds, and the military typically "over cleans" which shortens its life. It's a good idea to inspect the locking block closely during maintenance to look for hairline cracks and if you're not sure, run a pencil across the surface and you'll be able to feel any cracks. If you feel a crack it's cheap and easy to replace.

Last week I went to my LGS and traded in a gun on a Wilson Combat Beretta 92G Centurion. I went into the range and put some rounds through it, very smooth action and fun to shoot. I feel that it was money well spent. Now if the ammo supply will get back to normal, I will be putting a lot of rounds through it.

Fantastic review, as always! I love my 92 compact. It had not gone to Wilson. That's something I'll never be able to afford on a teacher's salary. What an awesome video! I do have BOTH the Beretta 92 FS and I converted it to a decocker (G) model and use many of the Wilson Combat upgrade parts. I do all the modifications myself. I also have the CZ75 SP-01 Tactical (decocker) and upgraded everything with Cajun Gun Works parts. Both are AWESOME. But IMO the CZ75 SP-01 is the better gun PERIOD! Shoots better and just feels better in my hand. THAT IS ME. But to let you know howmuch I like the Beretta, it is the ONLY pistol that I have never traded and it has been with me since the 90's. Just an FYI and not that important but I had a FULL head of hair then. Today not so much!...LOL KEEP ON ROCKING and great review!

Nice review of a great pistol! You’re referencing the ‘locking block’ which Beretta uses on the 92/M9 rather than the typical tilting barrel Browning-Petter system. Beretta borrowed the locking block arrangement from the Walther P38.

The M9A3 had me with the Vertec grip and became my favorite 92 and favorite handgun, the the Langdon Elite LTT dropped with the LTT VZ grips, and It surpassed the A3/Vertec in my opinion. Since Mr. Wilson and Mr. Langdon worked together on the Wilson Guns and development, they are great units and you can’t go wrong with any of them; though put me in the Langdon camp as far as preference. The CZs are fantastic guns too, maybe it’s just my “I want to be different” peaking out again, but I prefer the 92 series (overall favorite platform) for a metal gun and then the HK P2000/P30 LEM and PX4 for plastic guns. Now Mr. Langdon has brought us an Elite compact and centurion...

Great video and keep it up!!

@chancesare26245 жыл бұрын
KSGunGuy your pending comparison video may heavily influence that choice! Can’t wait for it. From my perspective, the threaded barrel/barrel length, the mag capacity, overall feel of the grip, and ability to change sights/which sights come standard, are the main points I’m going back and forth on. I know they’re all nice, with nice triggers, just depends on the use as to which is “best”. For me, it’ll be a range toy and possibly bedside gun.

It's a masterpiece! I've got a 1995 Centurion, they are hard to find, it has the DIY Wilsonization. The locking block drops down so the barrel doesn't tilt, improves accuracy, so they say, they are accurate! The G, or FS configuration does not effect the trigger pull at all. The G is preferred because the gun is always ready to fire and can't accidentally be put on safe. Stock 92/M9 Berettas come with a 20lb hammer spring. The D Spring is 16lbs. You can run a 13lb or 14lb and be reliable. With a 12lb only with high quality ammo/primers (not recommended for carry/duty competition only). This is from Ernest Langdon. He has a video on hammer spring weights for 92s and PX4s. The Elite II hammer is reduced mass, so it takes less force to pull the trigger back and it cycles faster due to less mass. All of my Beretta 92s have: Factory G or G Conversion, 14lb chrome silicon hammer springs, Elite II skeletonized hammers, extended mag releases, Wilson Combat fluted steel guide rods and VZ Grips. Just adding the Elite II hammer and a 14 or 16 pound hammer spring will make your Beretta feel like a new gun and much easier to shoot. I shot them in stock configuration for many years and never had any issues shooting/qualifying.

You know how the Centurion has a smaller, lighter slide? Does it track even better than a standard sized 92 slide like your LTT? KS while the exposed barrel might be questionable as appropriate as a combat sidearm not being a revolver, it does serve to make for a very flat shooting pistol due to less reciprocating mass when cycling. It could also be misconceived as possibly promoting more muzzle flip because of less weight out front but suprisingly it doesn't. I have owned 3 different Beretta pistols a 1989 model 92, a 1993 96c in 40cal, and a Cheetah 380 model 86 with the flip up barrel that allowed to load a cartridge manually. All of which were fantastic firearms that performed flawlessly. Beretta DA/SA triggers are extremely smooth although much heavier than the WC in stock configuration. I only ever had one issue with the exposed barrel and that was my 96c took a fall from the pouch of my truck's seat cover and landed on the hinge section of a two post 4 arm vehicle lift dinging the barrel. Now just to explain my truck had 12" suspension lift and an 8 " body lift with 44" super swampers on it so the fall was from nearly 5.5' above the lift arms. My cousin is a gunsmith and said that it would not affect the functionality of the firearm but my OCD said it would affect my functionality knowing it was there Lol, so it got a new barrel and all was well. Although my favorite DA/SA is a CZ-75 or any variant thereof the Beretta would definitely be my second choice. The Beretta instills great confidence when shooting and granted by today's standards it is not ideal for EDC but if the plasti-pistol revolution with Glock had never taken place it would be a viable carry option in a compact version. There is a reason why Beretta was the second longest running autoloader sidearm in our nations Military history it is an exceptional platform that isn't prone to malfunction, it is highly accurate, and was easy to maintain. Great video but I can't wait to see the Langdon Tactical review and what the outcome of a head 2 head "If I could only have one" showdown with the WC would render as a winner.
@KSGunGuy015 жыл бұрын
Wow! That truck sounds absolutely huge, lol. The Cheetah is actually high on my list to review. I hear nothing but good things about them. I hear you about CZ versus Beretta, but I’m curious to get them head to head. I do agree about the longevity of the 92 platform. Seems that many really enjoyed running them and counted on their reliability. Thank you and cheers Coiler!
@killacoiler17075 жыл бұрын
@@KSGunGuy01 the Cheetah depending on caliber is rather snappy mine was the 84 in 380 which wasn't too bad but my stepdad had the model 86 which was 9mm and it would jump around a bit depending on the rounds you were running. Been debating on the m9a3, WC, LTT, etc. too many to choose and prices are VERY high locally. I like to get hands on before I drop the funds Also about reliability and debris due to the exposed barrel.... carried it overseas... love/hate relationship.... as with all our gear proper maintenance was key especially after those damn sand storms. To the best of my knowledge, there aren't any 92 series pistols that you can carry "cocked and locked" - as the safety lever/de-cocker is designed to SAFELY de-cock the pistol when used. You can load a round, de-cock it and carry it on "safe" (lever down) or simply de-cocked (lever back up). The Wilson Combat has the "G" model spring loaded de-cocker only (won't stay down on safe as demonstrated in this video). The 92 series has a slightly different safety and/or de-cocker design vs. Sig, a 1911, or a CZ, but is easily understood with just a little bit of training/experience. I use the term "forward is fire" and "down is dumb" for the Beretta safety lever. If the lever is down when you want to shoot it - that's dumb. If it's forward it can be fired. The hammer spring is located in the back of the grip - just like other hammer fired pistols. The "D" spring is an excellent, cheap, and easy modification that can be made to any "base" 92 series pistol that significantly improves the DA pull while retaining 100% reliability.

I like the “forward is fire, down is dumb” saying. Makes perfect sense! I agree about the modification of the D spring. I actually took the frame of this one completely apart and it was very easy. I can see why so many people upgrade them! Thank you for sharing and cheers David!

Can't cock and lock the fs model either. The safety decocks the gun when you put it on safe.

Fast forward 1 year, and my Beretta is a paper weight. I will not pay new prices for ammo , and will not burn through the ammo i have stocked :(

Nice gun! To expensive though...don’t you think? I aso thought about the exposed barrel but if it was good for the armed forces it should be good for the civilian world too. Great vid KS
@KSGunGuy015 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It’s pricey for sure and probably just over the line for what it is, but the quality and shooting experience are right up there too, so for many... it’s a wash. Me included. Good point on the exposed barrel and I agree. Cheers Ricky!

If the exposed barrel was an issue, this gun wouldn't have the track record it does

I want a Beretta so bad! My hands aren’t that big though. I shot a P229 and the pad of my finger just barely reaches the trigger. I think the M9A3 would fit me better but there’s no way in hell I’m paying $1,000 just for cool factor.

KSGunGuy I would like to know your opinion on the FN 509 Midsize vs Glock and M&P - if you could only have one which would you choose
@KSGunGuy015 жыл бұрын
Personally, I’d go M&P. Both the 4 inch and 3.6 inch have been stellar but the FN is definitely no slouch either.

My 92 has been and still remains the best looking and most reliable gun I own. I'd say it's maybe the best combination of utility and looks out there for a magazine handgun. If we're talking revolvers then sorry lads, I gotta say Colt python. There's just something sexy about a quality steel pistol. Ignoring the size and weight. It'll serve you well at the range, on a shelf, or on a battlefield. That's utility in strides.
