Wimbledon: Elena Rybakina becomes first Kazakh player to win a grand slam

Жыл бұрынElena Rybakina became the first player from Kazakhstan to win a grand slam title as she beat Tunisian third seed Ons Jabeur in the Wimbledon final on Saturday. Rybakina, 23, fought back to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and become the youngest Wimbledon singles champion since 2011. Currently ranked No 23, Rybakina became the first woman ranked outside of the WTA's top 20 to win at Wimbledon since Venus Williams in 2007

She’s a Kazakh athlete because she’s a citizen of Kazakhstan since 2018 representing Kazakhstan everywhere. Where has Russia been then? Why everyone is bringing her ethnicity. Even in Russia their population doesn’t consist of only Russians. That’s why citizenship is more important. And she represents Kazakhstan. Russia didn’t need her. It was Kazakhstan who supported her and provided with all resources. Without that support she would end when she was 18 - that was her words. Tennis is a very expensive sport. Thank you for understanding.

Russia didn’t win ANYTHING. She may be Russian born, but she wasn’t Russian sponsored and she didn’t play as a Russian citizen. I’ll agree it was wrong to ban Russians from the tournament, but YOU are also wrong to claim it as a Russian victory

@@user-bi4px3vx4k doesn't really mk her a Kazakhstani.. she started playing for Kazakhstan cuz the Kazakhstani tennis federation offered her financial help or smthng.. she started representing Kazakhstan only to further her career.. she doesn't hv any nationalist feeling for Kazakhstan.. it's not lyk she was born there or her mom was half-Kazakh or smthng.. if Romania offered her help, she would hv played under the Romanian flag.. that wouldn't hv made her a Romanian.. look, i hv nothing against Kazakhstan.. i hv Kazakh and Uzbek frnds.. but what i meant was Rybakina is basically a Russian.. just playing under a Kazakhstani flag doesn't really mk her a Kazakhstani...

Most of ethnic russians born and raised in Kz don't speak kazakh, russian is an official language here too. But it's not the point. Rybakina changed the country to represent long before 2022 for better conditions.
