What a fabulous visit to a real model railway. It is always an added bonus when a layout depicts an actual location, as indeed my own Armathwaite does. I was fascinated by Gordon's statement that people viewed the layout and could how exactly where they knew personally. Once at an exhibition with Armathwaite I spied a chap stood a few few from the end of the layout, and he seemed mesmerised. I walked over to say hello and noticed a glint or perhaps even a tear in his eye. I have not been down the front of the layout he advised me, because I don't need to. I know this location he said, because as a young lad in the 1930s I sat on that bridge parapet watching the trains. I spent over an hour checking every detail of the layout with him and it appeared that when Howard and I built it we almost created perfection. As he left to see the next layout he looked at me with a tear in his eye , grabbed my sleeve and said thank you for making my day. In actual fact he had made mine too!! Thanks Charlie. Many thanks Charlie for sharing this. The Wimborne model railway is incredible. The many coordinated operators work so well and that modelling is something that I can only dream about. A wonderful job everyone involved with the society. To model something that has now all gone not only brings back memories of those who were around at the time but also educates later generations on the history of how things used to be. First, thanks to the club to "show" us their beautiful ,well thought out and run layout. Second, it never fails to amaze me how the British railways love their trackwork. Cross overs, diamonds, double and single slip switches , three-way and wye switches ,and these are all hand laid. I can't get one commerical three-way to work. I just love it. I don't even need a train running through the switch ( sorry points) to be fascinated by them. Third, thanks Charlie for showing us this wonderful layout and their great co-operation was remarkable. I never understood the " three cheers for ... So an so", until now. Three cheers for you and these fine gentlemen. Hip, hip,hooray, hip, hip hooray, hip, hip, hooray!

Thank you Charlie, Another fun running session. For full disclosure I am sending an email to Gordon and his RxR Society. He demonstrated the removable gardening allotment section. Later he mentioned two contemporary treatments for those properties which got me to thinking. Which is NEVER a good thing. But here goes. Invite Society members, friend, and diorama crafters to design, plan, & build scenic structures to the dimensional constriction of the allotment section. Onto that sub-building bed the modelers present a Posh Gentrified Apartment Complex and/or a Senior Citizen's home. The second option COULD have a tunnel structure over the trackage adding to the viewing experience! A club challenge for enhancement and personal bragging rights. Just my thought for your thoughts. Hello Charlie, don’t mind admitting I’ve had a hectic week and just remembered I’d yet to watch this video. And my goodness it was worth it! 😎 We visit our friends at Wimborne each year when we go to Dorset on holiday and absolutely love it there. As a child, Clair’s family visited the minster and remembered a kindly old man who, hearing their disappointed groans that the Chained Library was closed, revealed himself as the custodian and gave them their own private tour! Fast forward to 2021, we met two ladies at a gig in Hammersmith, they mentioned they came from Dorset, and Clair told this lady, Sam, about the nice old gent (can’t remember hi name off the top of my head). This lady’s face fell to disbelief as she revealed that she was…the old man’s granddaughter! What are the chances? 😂 Her grandfather was headmaster at the grammar school and was a prominent member of the community until he passed aged 91. Sam’s dad, John, told me of the many trips the old gentleman would take the pupils on, and mentioned his nature trails along the river and the excitement when a train rattled over the old bridge, so it must be that very one! How fantastic to be able to see it in model form. I can’t wait to show John this video when we go down in June 😊 Thanks Charlie, please do pass on my regards to the chaps when you speak again. It truly is a fantastic model and I love that there always seems to be something going on 😎 Cheers 👍🍻🍀

This takes me down memory lane. Going to Wimborne market in the early fifties to buy or sell rabbits. The mention of Lady Wimborne also pulls the heart strings as my mother was a seamstress to her before the war

Yes Charlie! I chanced upon this stunning layout on the exhibition circuit a couple of years ago and found it absorbingly entertaining. Especially when a local pickup goods arrived into the station on the Up Line up behind a BR Standard Class 2 2-6-2T, knocked the brake van off and conducted its business in the Up Yard before re-joining its brake van in the station and continuing onwards. Such realism and interest for the public, too. Thanks for posting it.

I took my Grandson Ivo to the West Camel show just before the new year where you appeared. We were captivated by your set-up and Steve very kindly allowed Ivo to spend some time operating the fiddle yard. I would love to see the wiring diagram as it you described the controls as 'a form of cab control' - interesting! A seriously good job - very entertaining as well and I look forward to seeing the layout again soon. Thankyou!

Thanks Charlie, lovely model When I was at boarding school in Shaftesbury (Shaftesbury Grammar School) in the mid to late 1970's, I used to get the bus to / from Bournemouth. From Bournemouth to Shaftesbury, near Wimborne, we went over a level crossing and if you looked to the right, you could see coaching stock which appeared to be stabled in the distance. It was there from 1977 to 1978 at which point I had a moped then motorbike

I loved the seagulls and pigeons indicating where to stop for uncoupling!! Alas no man on the viaduct though 😉😉 You did make me wonder what might remain there, I had a quick look on railmaps and that whole area is devoid of a railway connection. Thanks for showing us this a great many of your subscribers will be unlikely to get the chance👍👍 Look forward to seeing your "swifts" given the bird theme its going to be about uncoupling I guess😆😆😆 Good luck from Spain!!

Charlie, thank you for an "Exhibition" Report. What a lovely layout, so much wonderful detail, and such enthusiasm for the model and the attention to details. Counting bricks to get the size of a house, that is going above and beyond..... The weathering on the locomotives and rolling stock was just right, and the operations are something you could just stand there and watch for hours. Great video, excellent layout. Wonderful example of a successful exhibition layout there, lots going on and I do love a layout with a consistent stock roster. Saw this at your Xmas show for the first time (hopefully not last) and was very impressed.

What fun. A really lovely model, beautifully done. And how great to see an analogue layout that can operate so flexibly. Who needs DCC? Haha! By the way, depending which Lady Wimborne it is, she was the husband of my 8th or 9th cousin. (Which is a very distant relationship, so no need to bow or curtsey.)

Hello, I watched the recent video put out by you with Chadwick Model Railway regarding the Wimborne club layout. I have to admit, the layout's level of detailed craftsmanship was simply stunning and a credit to their group. I particularly enjoyed the operations which also had no distracting background music and some excellent descriptions of the activity happening. I am an American modeler and even though I may be over the pond so to speak, I have drawn a lot of inspiration in recent years from British modeling including yourself. The skill level of so many British modelers seems to far exceed what we have here nowadays, particularly with the layouts I've seen lately at many of the model shows. Again, bravo to the Wimborne Model Railway society for some of the finest modeling work I've seen anywhere for some time. You all have my gratitude for your inspiring examples. Keep up the great work!

The skills shown by the British modelers, and their results are exactly why I have chosen to model British rail here in California, along with the fact that I can (eventually) run thirty and forty car/wagon trains without having to move out of three rooms in the house. Having once considered modeling my home town of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and the associated Challengers, 4000's, and Streamliners across the great plains, I ma glad I have let go of that fantasy.

For some weeks I kept the edition of BRM which featured Wimborne in my Loo Library. Remarkable how you can still see something new after several loo breaks. Magnificent as it appeared in the magazine, that pales before your video. This is a trruely great model in every sense and your video does it justice indeed. 45 minutes of absolute pleasure.

Amazing and beautiful layout, dear Charlie! Love the different explanations from all the team members. Very cool uncoupling mechanism. Think I saw a comparable layout like the Wimborne Station exhibition layout at a train show here in the Netherlands, over a decade ago. What truly amazed me was the level of operation and operation opportunities. Next to that the level of detail achieved. Even though the grass is always greener on the British isles, in model form British layouts definitely stand out, for a more natural look. At that time, at the very least, most of the exhibited Dutch layouts, still remained at what I call the ‘Heki’ standard colors. Great vid. Such a great way to show the achievements, passion and puns of a model railroad team, like the Wimborne one. Cheerio
