Everytime I see one of your maintenace/fixing videos, I go and get stuck into a job I have been putting off. Love seeing your skills and the big, big jobs you tackle, and it's plain as day, that no-one ever told you you couldn't do anything, or told you to leave it to the experts, when you were growing up. Respect to your parents, and thanks for being you, thanks for sharing you.

Guten tag... I didn't expect to hear "good day" in German while you are in New Zealand, but I spent 2 years in Germany in the early 80s, so it didn't throw me off much... lol The paint job really brightened the place up, looks great! So cool of that guy to clean up your fuel tank for you at no cost, when people do things for me and refuse to be paid, I just find a way down the road to pay it forward, it's always a nice feeling...

My formula for minimizing dirty fuel: (i) add a biocide as fuel comes on board (has to be added when fresh); (ii) put all new fuel througb a baja filter, as it comes on board; (iii) if possible, try to keep the fuel tanks topped up (the bad stuff needs air to grow); (iv) before you change a fuel filter, pump out the fuel tank, through that old filter. The bad stuff sits at the bothom and it is better to remove that gunk when at anchor, not at sea; (v) when you pump out the tank, pump it into a transparent container, so that can examine it. If you see a hint of particles, filter again, before placing it back into the tank; (vi) every time you check the engine oil, check the fuel oil/water separator. Drain a little fuel each time to double check; (vii) install the largest primary filter / separator you have space for. A small filter is going to clog well before a large filter. If you follow that regime you will have no more dirty fuel issues.

Hey! I agree with this thread, but with a caviot...When you are sailing, and your batteries are topped, you should devise a "diesel polishing system" to eliminate air and it's accumulated agua. The biocides are good, but usually too late to prevent poopy tank goo. Even more important is having a fueling system that can "see" that water in the fuel. In other words, filter/clean/polish your diesel before it get onboard. Can be cheap, definitely easy, and eliminates pre-sail jitters. We have found diesel to be shite in the entire world. You really need a dual trap/strainer system that can be circulated via battery-pump when NOT in use. Many ways to skin this cat.

I cleaned and painted the tank for Holly and gave her a combined diesel dedicated almost zero maitenance sedimeneter and magnetic filter unit to combat water/dirt/metal intrusion into her fuel system as well enuf Biocide to treat 650 litres so shes covered for a while.

'Wind Hippie' is pretty much the perfect moniker for a solo cruiser. If I had it I'd feel guilty that I stormed in ahead of the field, shouting and screaming at all the others, and claimed the prize in front of the rest. I'm retiring to an old sailing boat next summer and I wish I'd got that name. Ah well, never mind, somebody's got to come last.

I know you have already done the work, so the next paint project use 80 grit to scratch off the funky stuff. The 120 will clog on you really fast if you not just sanding a pre cleaned surface. Will use much less sandpaper and arm labor. The next time you buy paint get you a reloadable hand sanding block. The ones with the nails under the end slots to hold the paper. Toss it in your painting kit/ tool box. Will be thankful to have it when you want you sand and paint. Love the vids! Keep ‘em coming! Be safe and above all ……..have as much fun living your life the way YOU want to. We are all envious of you gal! From your friends at CSA. ( Couch Sailors Anonymous) 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍😎

Hello, in regards to your mould ,mold problem, most people try using bleach ,vinegar, it just bleaches it but does not kill it like oil of cloves, you can use a few drops of oil of cloves, in a half litre of water in a spray bottle shake well and spray onto mold let sit for a few minutes then you can wipe it off the mould will be dead and not come back you can also add it to paint so it never gets mold, oh and the place smell will like a dentist surgery for a couple of days until it airs. Cheers
