Krystal, from Krystal's Texas Garden, and I did a collaboration on a Window Planter Box Under $20. We challenged ourselves to build a window box under $20. This is a simple DIY that you can get your materials from a fence supply store to save you money from a normal big box store. Most people use this planter box as a flower box. However, we may be using this as a HERb planter box.

I want window boxes so badly but I’m sure the plants would fry in them here because our sun is so intense. Hanging pots don’t do well here either. But hopefully as our trees grow it will help and I can get some 😁 Thanks for the great video!
@TheNakidGardeners
@TheNakidGardeners 5 жыл бұрын
Put it on a North/East facing window. That way the sun is not as harsh.
@naturallybalancedfarms
@naturallybalancedfarms 5 жыл бұрын
The Naked Gardener you would think so but actually that side is the hottest at our house this time of year. I checked one time and it’s about 30 degrees hotter. I had to move my garden because everything kept frying and I couldn’t figure out why. That’s how I came about this discovery. The way our house sits though it doesn’t really matter which side I put it on because one side or the other gets the harsh at all times. I’ve had things fry at each spot. So we are planting more trees. Our average uv rating is usually 11 or higher most of the day most of the year. It’s interesting to learn how gardening in the desert is so different even from places in the same growing zone. It’s been a huge learning curve. But you’ve given me a good video idea! Thanks!

@@naturallybalancedfarms oh wow. That sucks big time. Sorry to hear that. Hope you come up with something like a shade fabric or trees/bushes.
@naturallybalancedfarms
@naturallybalancedfarms 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah it really does. We opted for trees but they take time to grow but we picked fast growers. The trouble with shade cloth is that we also get extremely high winds and micro bursts fairly often too and shreds everything. So we try to strategically place things to add wind block also. I have luckily learned some securing techniques recently from other that live in tornado and hurricane areas thanks to the power of KZfaq 😁
