My friend had 95, so I remember hearing that "birth of the internet" primordial startup (Microsoft sound). My family got 98+, so we had all the extra themes. I loved playing with all the themed sounds, but the 98 startup and inside your computer startups were my favorite. I even reversed the 98 startup for a shutdown version.

When i was a kid (4 or 5 years old) ,my dad changed the startup sound from default to dangerous creatures on Windows 98... I lost my shit immediately, started to cry and i was fist fighting the speakers 😂😂😂

The sounds aren't actually from Longhorn. Longhorn used XP sounds until it changed to Vista, where they started using the Vista sounds.

i love win xp, you can change the colors of EVERYTHING, you can set animated gifs as brackgrounds, you can change system sounds on a whim etc its just great. I want *that* just with the stability of BSD/unix, but the comfort and the perks of linux but also able to properly run some games ..then it woudl be perfect, though the last bit is optional, since nothing keeps me from simply using a windows machine (offline) for specific purposes

back when iwnodws 98 still was the big thing, we had the Microsoft Plus! packages that brought all these crazy themes with backgrounds and sounds (most of them had colours that looked like pure garbage tho)

For me the nostalgia kicks in around 7.. Vista was cool, so was 10 and 11 isn't bad either.. But 7 I think had the best UI graphics and sound effects.

The WIndows 95 and 98 ones are sweet memories of mine. Our computers ran at these when I was a child, In fact, MY computer ran on Win 98. Then came Windows XP, with a new computer, and I was fascinated. I was 12 or 13 years old then.

Windows XP and Windows 7 (and possibly Windows Vista) was what I started with for home use when I was a kid! I then had Microsoft Server 2003 for when I was in primary school, where I would then follow with Windows 7 when I started secondary school, and then Windows 8 and 8.1 during the latter stages of secondary school! These sounds really give me so much nostalgia, and that even goes for operating systems that were around before I was even remotely born!

Also, the windows 8, 8.1, & 10 “ring in 6” sounds very familiar, because it sounded like one of those products that you probably don’t have & it has that same sound. Anyways, it sounded just like that. If you don’t know what I mean, I won’t blame you.

I love Windows 7 because it came out a month after I came into the world and I used it on my dad's computer when I was 4-5. Today I have Windows 11, but the beloved system came back when I installed VirtualBox. ❤️

I was barely conscious back when my dad had a windows 95(might have been 98??) and so i dont have any memories of the start up sound (besides the fact that they're fucking awesome), but our family computers had Windows XP and I remember getting on after school to play Poptropica, UT2004, and whatever flash games I was obsessed with. Then my brother and I had a windows 7 pc for SO long it's insane, that startup sound will never leave my mind.

I feel like Windows Vista is the forgotten middle child where it's older brother Xp was iconic and it's younger brother windows 7 was a better version of him.
