Growing herbs indoors in small baby food jars can be a fun and rewarding experience.
Here are some of the best herbs to consider:
Basil: Requires moderate sunlight and regular watering. Keep it near a sunny window.
Chives: Hardy and can thrive in lower light conditions. Perfect for small spaces.
Mint: Grows well indoors and doesn't require a lot of light. Be sure to keep it watered.
Parsley: Prefers bright light but can tolerate some shade. Water regularly.
Thyme: Needs a sunny spot and well-drained soil. Water sparingly.
Oregano: Likes bright light and well-drained soil. Water when the soil feels dry.
Cilantro: Prefers cooler temperatures and indirect light. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering.
Great! Let's get started.
Your task for today is to plant basil, parsley, or chives in a recycled jar.
Here’s how to get started:
1. Grab an old jar or any small container you have lying around.
2. Fill it with some soil. Ensure each jar has a drainage layer, such as pebbles at the bottom, to prevent waterlogging.
3. Plant your herb seeds-basil, parsley, and chives are great choices.
4. Water lightly, just enough to keep the soil moist.
5. Place your jar on a sunny windowsill.
6. Regularly check the soil moisture and adjust watering as needed.
And there you go! See how easy that was?
In a few weeks, you’ll have fresh herbs to snip and sprinkle on your meals. Not only do they add incredible flavor, but they’re also packed with nutrients.
