The DC Audio Astrovan has:
12 DC Audio XLm2 12s , 4 DC Audio 9.0 amps, 2 Mechman Elite 370 alts, 16 XS power D1600 Batteries and A LOT of Sky High Car Audio Cable.
This vehicle is a BEAST! I am actually at the helm this time giving myself a demo :D Keep in mind, where i am sitting is loud, but not as loud as the other side, especially with the window sealed up. It is several db less on the driver side than the bass "trap" on the passenger side. That is why I can sit there like that. (in case you are wondering). Also, right before i got there he broke that window out so we couldn't even close it if we wanted to LOL!

Sad that you have to explain why you do or don't tap out to people. I am no expert and really could not tell you much about audio but I know enough to understand that other factors combined give you a different outcome. Thanks for all the videos. Is tuning an amp via the head unit the act of turning head unit volume to let say level 10, then adjusting the gain on the amp til distortions are heard? I do not wish to purchase additional equipment that will never see the light of day after I install my system, to me, that would be a waste of money.

Thank's Steve for the explanation as I was thinking, how come with 40k of power it's not sucking the air out of your lungs? It would be interesting to see how brutal it is if you are sat on that 'bass trap' side with all the windows up and that bass knob turned all the way up LOUD. Crazy power. Also interesting to see a van with multiple 12" subs as opposed to a few large sized ones.

The owner probably prefers the 12's because they punch harder faster. 15's 18's etc' have a slower or loose response and it's not so tight. The coils are usually respectively the same size where as if you used 10's it would be a smaller cone size. It's always more fun to say you have 12 subs rather than just 6 too.

Im not gonna get into that whole silly 8's hit faster than 18s mess, but he actually does have a video of him sitting on the other side. Its either from 2013 or 2014 I think... and yes he does tap out. lol

marksapollo Actually I am saying the size of the woofer itself. It's all about air movement, pressure. Sound pressure. 15's move more air vs 12's but also need more cubic ft box space. The coils being usually the same size in a 15 vs 12. The 12 having less woofer to move has a quicker response. Smaller volume of box needed. 2 12's is 24" of woofer to move air/pressure vs 1 15". 12 12's and your at 144" where as 8 15's would be only 120". Lacking 24" of air force. You'd need 10 15's to beat 12 12's. But also 5 more cubic feet of box as well if you have the space. This guy wants also to use 40k watts instead of just 30k watts. He has 12 subs drawing juice rather than 10. 15's and 12's usually can take the same amount of current. So more coils burning power means he can add more power for show.

Tigermike26 It really depends on what kinda sound you want, a 4th order is a sealed and ported chamber which allows punchy bass with smooth lows, a 6th order is 2 ported boxes in one area which allows for slamming lows and solid mid/high bass.

my guess is they are dual 2 ohm subs where each sub is wired with its coils in series, for 4 ohms per sub, and sets of 3 are paralleled on each amp, yeilding 1.5 ohms per amp which should output in the 7-8.5k watt range per amp depending on battery voltage. that's how I would do it. or maybe 3 9Ks for the lows and one 9K for the midbass with 4 2 ohm DVC subs wired in parallel-series-parallel for 1 ohm per amp for 9-11k per amp depending on battery voltage.
