How to repair a stripped windshield wiper shaft. Quick Fix.
Please proceed at your own risk and replace the wiper arm when possible.
I spelled "decorative" wrong and its killing me! But you tube won't allow a replacement upload without delating this one.....:(

my wiper became loose after a battle with heavy snow, and today it let go.. I was in a panic. I know NOTHING about that job..... Until--I saw this video.. I swear-- you saved my rear!!! MANY thanks and grattitude!! I really can't say how much of a relief this video IS.. !! Thanks a mil or 2 !!!!!

Hi. My name is Steven Riedle. I saw your comment about fixing the stripped windshield wiper arm. How long did that work ? I’m thinking of a few fixes, but this one looks good and easy. Other then using Loctite 660 glue. Hope you are doing well.

If you use too much wire, it will make it way too tight to fit the arm back on. 3 wires that size works fine. I'm going to fix the rear wiper on my van tomorrow with some welding wire. Yeehaw! Btw, you can just set the wires with a single twist, then after you get the arm on, cut off the access, as the important part is filling the gap.

The wire was to thick for my wipers. But you gave me an idea. I used a thin slice of tin strapping, that worked. I have used tin strapping to increase tension on battery terminals. Thanks

04 BUICK CENTURY. the splines on the stem are gone, completely worn out. How many months would those wires hold? Ah well.

Oh wow that really could be the solution for our problem on my Peugeot J5 - seems the correct wiper arms are no longer available and the previous owner already put a not correctly fitting one on it so it does not move with the motor at all.

About to try this, but will those wires damage the threading of the wipershaft??

This method is to be used when the threads are already damaged. If your threads are good you shouldn't need the wire.

Ontario Lakeside threads in the arm are stripped but threads on wiper shaft are fine.

Use a soft wire, something with some tin in it.

That is not a repair. It isa hack that will cost you money later. The wiper arm is made from a soft material (aluminium probably) and the mount of the motor is made from iron. If anything hapens, like too much snow on the windshield, the wiper arm wil round its channels in order to protect the main engine shaft. If you put wire in the arm of the wiper, you could damage the shaft of the wiper motor that costs a lot of money and is hard to replace

It's all fun until the connector screw breaks in half while tightening 👍 yes this just happened to me, and welding doesn't work because sh** metal mix in these. Now I have to dismantle the mechanism in -13C tomorrow, enjoyable life. There is no god.

Agreed, I recommend using aluminum wire (or thin shims preferably) to protect the linkage transition for the concerns you raised. The wiper motor is not directly connected to the wiper arm so that will not be an issue. On my model car, the linkage is a common point of failure with regular use (Shame on you Toyota!)
