We boarded a motorized Polynesian outrigger canoe and glided on deep blue waters towards the eastern coast of the Raiatea. Our guide, Tihoti, took us upstream on the only navigable river in the Society Islands - the Faaroa River. We got soaked by rough waters and a downpour on the way to the river.
Along the way, we discovered the lush vegetation of a tropical forest with wild hibiscus purau trees, bamboo groves, Tahitian chestnut trees, crabs, and much more. Departing from the river, we were taken to a small motu, where we have some refreshments and relaxed in the sun. When we got to the motu we wanted to eat some fruit and drink some water before drying out. Some people snorkeled. I decided to explore the motu and take some video.
