There are a few classical wine varieties that are becoming important again. Particularly those lighter red wine varieties with lower tannin and red fruit flavors. This grape impressed us with how floral and elegant it can be.
So what wine is it?
Natte Valleij ("nah-tuh fal-LAY") Cinsault

Was first introduced to Cinsault at Tercero in Santa Barbara wine country. I buy it every year from them.

Love the mention of a classic California vineyard. Planted in 1886 in Lodi and grapes used in many cult CA producers like Bonny Doon, Scholium Project, and Turley Wine Cellars. I wonder, does Sandlands use it too?

Right away I was thinking Gamay, but there were too many warm climate descriptors for it. So I knew that it had to be Cinsault and as Cinsault is only used as a single cultivar in South Africa I knew that before the map popped up. I thought that it was Swartland, as the Cape is usually big on CS and Bordeaux blends. We had a lovely Cinsault from Stellenbosch 5 years ago, but light bodied reds in Taiwan/Asia is just now becoming a trend. So availability on non PN reds is pretty limited. Great video and lots of fun.

“A sensitive type”…😉. Nicely done comparing the two “finalists”. Keep pushing those regional and varietal boundaries- it pays off: tonight I started with a South African Chardonnay!

I saw the picture for the video and my mind was thinking Cabernet Franc or Cinsault for sure haha. Cinsault makes fantastic strawberry flavor Rosé. I actually think Rosé is the best use for a pure Cinsault 🤤

in my tasting experience, I found cinsault to be a delicious 'summer' wine-almost "Pinot Noir-Lite"-and appeals to a broader audience who may not be regular red wine drinkers.

The clues make these really easy, even for a beginner like myself. You said it was a hidden treasure and modest tannin. By the elimination method it could only be one thing, the only _slight_ hurdle being knowing that Nebbiolo is high tannin. But the thing is, I still learned about Cinsault! So the joke's on me :p Pretty smart way to teach entry level actually, kind of like positive reinforcement.

They didn’t have a South African Cinsault but they do have a Chilean Cinsault. Hey I heard you guys are located in Pioneer Square. I would love to connect with you and do business and/or pick your brain. I’m currently a student at the wine academy at South Seattle College and I’m following the path. Cheers 🥂 and thank you guys for mentoring me from afar..you’ve taught me a few things that I’ve taught my teachers and raised a few eyebrows!

I'm more comic knowledgeable than wine. You didn't mix your comic labels. Your examples were all from DC and not Marvel. Just curious why?
