Welcome to my third installment of my Canary Island Videos. This is about the local white speciality, Listan Blanco. Otherwise known as Palomino as used in Sherry, when it's planted on the volcanic soils of the Canary Islands this grape creates a very different style of wine.

Because of climate of Lanzarote it is very interesting story how camels (instead of horses) arrived in Lanzarote as a substitute of working animal. Wanna hear how or you just know the story?

@@WineWithJimmy camels (dromedary to be specific) arrived on Lanzarote from Africa in 1404 with the first Moors. Chroniclers relate how camels used to swim over, tied to the boats; their agility and buoyancy (three-chambers stomach filled with air is essential here) helping them to survive. It is only about 100 kilometers from African coast. In 1730s there were about 5000 inhabitants on the island and 1700 camels. More about that is in the book "Lanzarote & wine, landscape and culture" by R. Acosta & M. Ferrer, which I bought in Wine Museum in Bodegas El Grifo.
