It's because Wing Chun can be rather deadly when it's used properly.

I would beleive the slight stiffness in the chi sau is to maintain structure. In My Wing Tsun the same idea is supported by a hands always want to go forward and through the line of attack. That idea alone can create your offense and defense or visa versa. Its not a stiffness but an idea of your muscles wanting to move forward, which creates a great amount of strength.

I agree with heartdyedpurple also. In real life anything goes. It is not this way in UFC. Look at Russian Systema for instance. If you watch the Systema and Sambo episode of Kung Fu Quest you will see what I mean. They do ALOT of things that work extremely well but you could not do them in real life. Here's an idea ... what about Wing Chun plus Russian Sambo and / or Systema for ground concepts to supplement the Wing Chun on the ground. How many people do you see using Russian martial arts in UFC for ground fighting ? Not many because BJJ has got all the advertisement hype. The truth though is that Systema and Sambo have better ground and pound game than BJJ because they are not as predictable and are a bit more difficult to counter. I say a good strategy is to pick a scientific striking style and pick a scientific ground system that BJJ has trouble against. That's just my opinion though ...

To the people that say wing chun is no good ,is to say your style u take is no good,because there is a style for everyone,and odviously wing chun is not of interest to u or u would not put it down.all arts are good,if it helps u in selfdefense or to be a better person or help ur fellow man ,so why put another persons way of life down. You can use core principles like trapping,pinning, and redirection on the ground but alot of times the guy sitting on top with longer arms wins because he has reach and distance and while on their back a wing chun stylist can't use footwork to avoid that.

I say UFC is geared for groundfighting because it seems to be the ultimate goal of most of the ighters I see. Do you ever notice that almost all of them do BJJ ? It isn't because BJJ is a better style. It is because that is what wins statistically more often in UFC and the reason it wins more often is because when you take away the really brutal techniques the only thing you are left with is either knocking someone out while standing or choking them out and doing submissions on the ground. Most of those guys know that dominating on the ground will be easier in the cage than knocking someone out which could end up taking longer unless you have good technique and / or good power behind your strikes and kicks and are striking and kicking the right spots. Alot of guys want to take the easy way out and take it to the ground and let the corners of the cage do all the work for them ...or their weight...

Wing chun is for self defense, not some surrealistic cage fight crap. If you wanna pull some BJJ shit out on the street, go ahead, but don't blame me if the opponent's buddies start kicking you in the head, or if your opponent stabs you in the ribs while you're having fun grappling. LOOL

How's it geared for groundfighting? They get stood up all too often, and all too soon. If it was geared for ground work, they'd just leave them down there and let em fight.

@julz269 Someone should step up & deliver in the UFC or other MMA event. What's the hold-up? What do your sifus say when asked to compete? Do they take the old high road "It is only for self-defense; not to prove anything." Everything should stand up to authentic evaluation. According to Master Fong's training videos, WC is technically faster. Wong Shun Leung claimed WC to be the most effective fighting system yet devised. Skills of athletes are commonly put to the test. Sowhat's the hold up?

In ufc you have a cage to choke people out with or do damage with and corners to trap people with on the ground and it becomes about whoever can get the superior submission first and start using ground and pound in many cases. Alot of the fights I see being won that way. Many of wing chun's techniques and to soft tissue areas that are illegal in ufc and if you take that away from wc then you are left with footwork and core principles. On the ground you can't really use footwork

I tell everyone this when they start saying wing chun is bullshido. Each art has its strengths and weaknesses and it isn't that wing chun cannot win in the ring because it can win against bjj if you know how to use it on the ground but unfortunately ufc and cage matches are geared for ground game and alot of WC's techniques are illegal in the cage so it is greatly limited. In real life if you used some of the WC techniques on the ground you would likely still win. Even still ...

@BroOfTheDead The Gracies of Brazil have proven tons on UFC as they put their family name on the line. Yes, it HAS been entertaining except for the poor guy who took any of them on! Your advice about visiting a 'dojo'(a Japanese word) is moot- I have visited Lo Man Kam in Taipei; Leung Ting and Wong Shun Leung in HK; Fong in Tucson, and studios in Canada. My WC skills are emerging, but the Gracies' grandma could kill me. SOMEBODY should step up, because there have been some lofty claims made.

only good wing chun works on the streets. to bad there is so much rubbish out there. On youtube there are a few who know how te make it effective. Good wing chun (barry-lee) can't be found on youtube. Wan kam leung is also very good. All the leung ting, Ip chun etc is so blown out of proportion. They al claim they are good, but if they fight with a real good fighter (doesn't matter wich style) they will be demolished....
