It's Winging It Week 44 and we are in a 5th Sunday Month. This time, we are going to learn how to make some Stitched Buttons Trims and Edges.
This is an enormous area of textile art and so we are just having a bit of a taster today. I am going to show you some of my favourite techniques as we create a sampler page.
Do let me know which is your favourite.
To stitch along you will need:
20x20cm Felt square with 1cm border marked on all sides
Threads - we use all sorts today, so use whatever you like
Sharp needle
Blunt tapestry needle
Beading needle (straw needles are great)
Metal or plastic rings
Button forms - I used these: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...
Seam ripper
Ruler
Cutting mat (optional)
Rotary cutter (optional)
Pencil
Beeswax
Circle template
Beads
Heat erase pen

This was an exciting video for me. The covered buttons are my favourite. Seeing them completed brought back lovely memories of similar buttons my mother had in her sewing basket. I think that creating a sampler page is a great idea. It provides an opportunity to learn new stitches and present them in a way that protects them and keeps them safe. A book format becomes a handy reference tool and something to admire. I would like to make such a page showcasing the stitches you have demonstrated. I have never made Dorset buttons but would love to try. Thank you so much for stimulating my interest and sharing new techniques through your video. It is much appreciated.

I was thinking the same thing, I have started making myself Victorian clothes and have a book of fabrics that I have bought to keep a record, but having a book of buttons would be a great idea as I’m making my own buttons , like the Dorset button, but I also make buttons from seed beads, but I’m looking at making my own resin buttons as well, this way I can also keep a record of what were used and where I sourced them from.

Sorry to be boring but I like the tree best, too. Tho' the bouquet is cute as well. And the picot. I've got a tiny thin crochet hook that I could use for the fringe. I can't imagine ever crocheting with it.

What a lovely video! I really enjoyed it. I saw a death's head button video recently and thought how striking they were - they were frequently used on men's clothing in the 18th century and the man in the video was making authentic clothing from the period. I love your Dorset buttons - the scalloped edged one, the little bouquet and the tree - so pretty! I am looking forward to exploring some more of your videos. Thanks for sharing an excellent tutorial! PS After a really quick visit to your channel, new subbie! So many fun techniques to explore!
