I believe you have a more direct link with the line under the water as the resistance on the line picks up the hook quicker. When you have the line on the water you have to pick the line off the water first before making contact with the hook

First very enjoyable to watch. But after watching both Andy and Jamie fishing the Waggler i noticed they both miss so many bites because they strike wrong. they strike straight up this causes a slight delay and friction as you have to rip the line up through the water. if you hold the rod at a angle and strike side ways you pull the line through the water and you hit a lot more fish as the contact is more direct. Try it out and they will see the how many bites they hit. i hope this helps them out.

Should always strike sideways on the waggler as you are direct to the float Striking upwards means you need to lift all that line as you lift the rod

Not really, they’d be too heavy and cause all sorts of problems. Most shops will have waggler rods pretty cheap so worth getting one for the job 👍🏻

start sinking the line, if the bites go off you float the line to see if theyve wised up to the zipp along maggot of the sunken line.. if that makes sence lol.(a change of noise and presentasion).

imagine the water around the line being a tube, move half inch with the rod 1/2 inch moves on the hook sort of thing, floating line isnt quite straight so you have to tug on the loose, and the whole length is loose and wobbly so move your rod tip 2 feet and it still hasnt touched the hook.
