Those new potatoes in can, it is quite a common notion that Specimen carpers used to hook 'em. Probably died out with medern boilie type baits. It makes my day when a challenge pops up in KZfaq

I’m sure I have a book somewhere written by John Wilson and he goes on about potatoes as bait. There are a lot of other weird and wonderful stuff like using lentils and chickpeas covered too. My grandad tried those, I’ll never forget the day he told me to smell the tin when he’d opened it. He clearly knew something I didn’t 🤣🤣

Used to use potato pellets years ago punched out to 6/8mm and soaked in coffee over night in fridge before bands existed

That was hilarious, "You need some bait going in that edge Andrew" and then Jamie's face he pulled when he threw that spud in, I played it back about 4 times was so funny lol. He didn't like it that he got smashed up lol

Loved this. Besides the usual banter and showmanship, the bait is a bit of going back to basics.

To be fair, using surface baits on a water that doesn't allow it was always going to work, great job down the edge though Andy!
