This is George performing "Amarillo By Morning" live from the Astrodome. The best version of my favorite song! This is property of George Strait and MCA Records.

I remember driving my dads truck after he passed and he had this in his cassette player (this was in 2009.....he had a 91 Ford F-150 Lariat, in IMMACULATE condition). I remember turning the truck on, and this song starting, and I just sat there crying. Every time I hear this song, it makes me tear up. I remember going to rodeos with my dad when I was 5-6.....he rode the bulls and I rode calves....my sister did barrel racing......Oh what I would give to have it to do all over again.

I can't listen to this without crying. I lost my husband to cancer nearly 7 years ago. We were married for 38 years and loved one another so deeply that it nearly killed me after he was gone. I had always hoped and beleived that we'd last until our 90s and would dance on our 60th wedding anniversary to this song. But it wasn't meant to be. I love him with all my heart and always will. I'll never find another love as true as ours.

The name of that "fiddle player" is Gene Elders, and he's been with George Strait's "Ace in the Hole Band" since 1985. Trained in classical music, Gene's discipline in playing violin is obvious and he has such a casual manner of delivery. That wailing final solo very nearly steals the show :)

Exactly what I was thinking. The fiddle gives the song some deep definition. THIS...is country music as opposed to what they call "country" nowadays. George Strait, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Eddie Rabbit, The Judd's, Tammy Wynett, Loretta and Conway, Alabama, Little Jimmy Dickens and all that Grand Ole Opry gang, Marty Stewart, Glenn Campbell, I mean...no one today can touch these folks. I think the closet modern day performer u have is Alan Jackson. Now I do like ole Alan
