This Video is about our Daughter Winter Belle. We knew she had a problem at 20 weeks gestation. My wife had many ultrasounds and a MRI. He condition it's called hydrocephalus... here is a link www.hydroassoc.org/hydrocephalus/. She was Born at 39 weeks via Cesarean. I have made a video showing her over the months until now just shy one 1 year. She has had 2 brain surgeries the first at 18 days and she had a VP shunt medlineplus.gov/ency/article/003019.htm placed at 8 months old. Many ups and downs but we love this beautiful baby so much. Adopted my baby girl at 10 months old. Courtney born at 6 month gestation. In the hospital for 5 months. She weighed 2 and one half ounces. Her bio mother tried to kill her in the womb. Courtney was a vegetable at 10 months old. Could not roll over by herself. I did extensive therapy with her and she was walking at 1 year old. Courtney is now 36 years old and she is still shunted, will always have her shunt. She was born and had a blood clot in her ventricle from the abuse and they shunted her. She had dozens of operations first 5 months of her life.In the beginning she had a shunt on both sides of her head. She had her last shunt revision when she was almost 3 years. Courtney graduated with the Nation Honor Society. I want to tell every one Shunted people are the smartest people. Courtney was on the High School News Paper staff, Teachers Aide, She has a 4.0 grade point average. Courtney was awarded a scholar ship from the Teachers fund. When my daughter was in 11 th grade she received a Trophy for English Lit that was reserved for Seniors only. I watched this video and seen so many features that my daughter has and I just know that your baby girl is going to be so smart in every way. I know where you are coming from. Been there and done that. Courtney also has mild CP. Love goes along ways. The Doctors always praised me for the dedicated work I did with my baby girl. Sincerely Diana from Idaho The tater State. Omg! Thanks for sharing. My baby was born with the same condition and has had 3 shunt surgeries, he's 3 months old. In my case I had quite an easy pregnancy journey and only knew about his diagnosis few days in the NICU. We were devastated and the journey hasn't been easy with alot of worries and uncertainties. We do not know what the future holds but we are hopeful. I have been struggling alot because I'm a first time mom and this came as a shock to us. I'm happy reading from you.

@@wblife9120 I was born with Hydrocephalus, along with a couple other problems, but I’m 53 now. :) She’ll have many challenges in life, but as long as she’s got a good support system, she’ll be alright. :)

GOD bless your baby.. My son is hydrocephalus and he is about 2.5 months Drs are not going for shunt. his head size is about 59 Drs said he has no brain development but only cavities so wait for some time

Hi po, Watching this video gives me hope for our 2nd baby. I am now in my 5th month of pregnancy and it is really hard to take in that our baby has severe ventricolumegaly which can lead to hydrocephalus very unfortunate but we are still praying and hoping for the best. I’ve been doing a lot of research, watching videos here in youtube and i’m glad I got to see this video. Your daughter is beautiful. she is a fighter. May God Bless your family. Thank you for the kind words. Belle is great very smart. Still growthing her speaking skills but she will be in general education kindergarten later this year! Hang in there speak to a good neuo surgeon and get your baby connected to services (PT OT etc...)as soon as possible after birth. God is faithful. We will upload more videos about her soon. Can you plese tell me the name of operation / surgery in this case.actually doctors told me ETV surgery is not much successful in children below 5years. Kindly guide me. Hello she had an ETV a 8 months old but it did not work for her. The older the child them more effective ETV seems but I’m not a Doctor. She has a shunt now and it is working great for her. Bless your baby.

So cute. How's she doing now? I am 39 and had my first shunt at 3 weeks old and 4 shunt surgeries until age 11. My VP shunt is working well. I have 4 limb cerebral palsy and am in an electric wheelchair and have severe vision impairments.

Yes this is always scary. We have been lucky so far just so redness but no real swelling. Keep watching it and have your Neuro Surgeon look at if you feel its a problem.

Was there any vision problem? Mine was not following objects/toys, not responding to bright lights. Age 6 months. Is this something which happens in early stages and becomes normal later on? Please reply.

Yes she had pressure on her optic nerve and it improved after the shunt was placed. She is still seeing an eye doctor to monitor her vision and her eyes cross. She is seeing well. Have your Doctor refer your baby to an eye specialist.

Yes we had hoped that the ETV would work but the shunt has been tremendous for her.

How much was the head growing in size before they decided to put the shunt?

It was just steadily growing so it indicated the ETV did not fully work. Also she started declining in her development ever so slightly so we decided with the Neurosurgeon it was time for a shunt. I can’t remember the exact numbers anymore but it was charted from birth and it just kept growing. The shunt did wonders for her.

@@Lady.750You are welcome. It’s normal for the head to grow some just keep an eye out and talk to your Neurosurgeon. I hope the ETV/CPC works. At first we were scared and disappointed but honestly the shunt has been amazing for her. She reads and writes and with be in the regular kindergarten this year. I hope all goes well with your Son. They are amazing kids.

Follow your Doctors instructions. We gave some children's tylenol based on the Doctors guidance and let her rest. She recovered very fast.

You need to keep watching the ventricle size. Every child is different but in most cases the ventricle size of 10mm is not a concern. When we first found out in womb Belle was 16 and 13 at 23 weeks. I pray all goes well

You baby should be ok a only 10mm. My baby is doing great and she was much higher than that.

We did a lot of physical therapy. Tummy time using a pillow and she had a special chair that helped her. She did not hold her head until 10 or 11 months old. Just keep going. I wish you the best.

Its hard for us to remember because they stopped measuring a month before she was born and we had a scheduled C section. When she was born her head measured 42cm and it keep increasing so they did her first surgery at 18 days which was the endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) and choroid plexus cauterization procedure (CPC). That didn't work so she got her shunt at 9 months old. She is doing very well now. Very smart kid.
