Pocket bellows is a great piece of kit. Can make a huge difference when the wood is wet or the weather/wind isn’t cooperating. Thanks for sharing your great winter weekend at Algonquin. Take care and stay safe.

Great video, ive done this winter camp q couple times myself. For future reference, you should really stay off the summer camp sites in winter even if you have permission. Another way to look at it - winter camping opens up 99.99% of the park we arent allowed to pitch a camp site in summer, its amazing! And also doesnt exhaust things like wood sources at summer sites for future campers. Great saw too, love the Japanese pull style saws, makes a breeze out of canp wood. Cheers,

Bravo. Can't wait to see what content you release now that the winter is over. Looking forward to the next Alec and Paige collaboration.

We've had some spring like days but the lakes are still frozen and there's still snow on the ground. I enjoy camping in all seasons and I look forward to getting out on a spring trip soon. More Alec & Paige vids on the way! Thanks as always for watching!

I'm aware of all the summer and winter backcountry camping regulations. On this trip however I received special permission from the park staff at the westgate when I stopped to pick up my backcountry permit.

Why cut a tree at belly height? Just makes the site look like shit with belly high stumps.
@AleconAdventures
@AleconAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
I was probably more comfortable cutting there at the time. It wasn't at the campsite it was way off in the bush and I'm sure some animals made use of the stump. Thanks for watching!

November eh, wonder how different this November would be on the trail? 😄 Nice hilly trail. I did it in the winter several years back too.
@AleconAdventures
@AleconAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
It's a good short trail. I was happy to hike it in November because I only saw two other people on the trail. The weather has been pretty variable this year. Hopefully it isn't too mild this winter.

Loved the video! I'm doing provoking lake loop in a few weeks. Can it be done with a sled to pull my gear or is it too rocky?
@AleconAdventures
@AleconAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Pulling a sled up and down slopes is no fun. If you keep your weight down it is possible but don't expect to travel as many kilometers as if you were hiking. Thanks for checking out the vid!

@@AleconAdventures Thanks for the heads up. It's my first time winter backpacking solo and I'm having a hard time fitting all my warm gear into my pack, but I will try to make it work without the extra cargo space. Keep the great vids coming!

It's me again. I am really, is it difficult to follow the trail/makers during winter hike?
@AleconAdventures
@AleconAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
In Algonquin the trails are obvious and easy to follow. There are visible markers along the way. The only difference in the winter is that there's no trail maintenance.

I would like to ask if you need an appointment for this? Or not Because it seems that there are some road conditions, all wild camping is closed, but we have nine day vacation in March, and we really want to camp in the wild.
@AleconAdventures

Algonquin is open for car camping at Mew Lake and backcountry winter camping. Many summer backcountry access points are inaccessible in the winter. I would recommend accessing the backcountry along Hwy 60. Camping permits are required all year round for Algonquin Park. Thanks for checking out the vid!

Oh... they looked like over boots or Mukluks. Aren’t normal insulated winter boots too hot for hiking? Have you ever considered trail runners in winter with some kind of vapor barrier?? I’m going for my first winter trip in Algonquin soon and trying to figure out my footwear system.
@AleconAdventures
@AleconAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the person and on how thick the socks you're wearing are. I guess you could use trail runners with gaiters and warm wool socks, personally I wouldn't use a vapor barrier. I would rather let my feet breath and expel moisture through the breathable trail runners. This time of the year I wear winter boots with removable liners so I can dry them and I haul my gear on a toboggan.
