Okay, so maybe it wasn't the best time to take on a winter fishing challenge on Lake Tahoe, but I decided to try to catch 3 different species today...despite the fact that the water temps were sitting at a chilly 44 degrees.
Lake Tahoe has several different species: Lake Trout (mackinaw), Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout and Kokanee Salmon. Kokanee aren't really happening in the winter and the cutthroat are a bit of a wild card to0 since they just started getting stocked recently and most of them get eaten by other fish.
So, the showdown was on: I'd target rainbows, browns and lakers...

How about vertical jigging with night crawlers for rainbow trout on lake Tahoe and like i did from the boat dock on fallen leaf lake last summer and I caught my limit in one hour of doing that

Can you fish from a boat all year around in Lake Tahoe? I thought the boat ramps were only open in the summer? Thanks! Love the Tahoe fishing content

Yeah fishing is allowed year round and some of the ramps are open (weather permitting).

I'm up in BC and I've never fished Tahoe, but Tahoe is huge and deep, right? Is trolling the best way to land the big ones, particularly in the winter when the water at depth is warmer?

Yeah 26 miles long and 1,600 feet deep. Trolling works year round. We can watch lake trout up on the surface in the spring.
