Well, this is a humbling blast from the past! But this is how you learn.
If I remember correctly, I was attempting to learn how to use my new editing software, and the Sea to Summit tarp was new. But it was also an effort to learn and practice hiking in the snow. I only had ski pants at the time. I now have several pairs of lined hiking pants in my closet.
I remember how hard it was to hike in deep snow and how warm I was in my winter coat once I got moving. I was also grateful to have my coat when I stopped moving and quickly cooled down. Hiking in a mid-layer fleece and a shell would have worked better while I was exerting myself. Adding the puffy when I stopped to set up camp and snack would keep me warm while my body cooled down.
A local day hike is a great way to get comfortable with new equipment and adverse conditions!
This isn't a "how to" video, this is just an example of what it looks like from a beginners perspective to learn safely.
