@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 I add palms in the spring to add the tropical flair and some annuals. I use perennials as the bulk of the plantings, mostly hostas, hibiscus, liguleria, ferns, brunnera, solomons seal. ground covers mainly ajuga, myrtle, and creeping jenny. also two red abyssinian bananas i overwintered and hopefully will spring back this season, i just potted then up two weeks ago and lightly watered them to coax them awake.

Thank you James. I wouldn't be able to do any of this without following your great videos! By the way I think everyone of your Washingtonia Robusta seeds from Florida you gave me came up. I have probably 30 small washys now... some not so small.

Great array of plants you have, the river view is lovely, but living along the Hudson, makes the winters even colder than it is in the inland. I would like to know what types of Figs you are growing, as they seem to be more hardy than mine, and I am in central westchester, where the winters haven’t been too harsh! Thanks 😊

Hi David. They are expensive. I'm always looking for a better way. My windmills (Trachycarpus) are much easier to do and no insulation board. I'm hoping to post a video later this week when I finish.

Do you need to water them during the winter? Or does the snow take care of the watering?

How much extra heat do you get inside the enclosures with the lights on vrs outside air temperature? Say if you hit 0F, what is the temperature inside an enclosure with the lights?
@newyorktropicalgarden9364
@newyorktropicalgarden9364 Жыл бұрын
It can vary with the amount of lights you use. My goal is to keep the temp below 50F (10C) but above 35F (1.7C) You have to adjust the amount of bulbs to get what you want. I also use thermocubes as backup

@newyorktropicalgarden9364

Hi Dave. No... I do nothing with them and the one on the north part of the pool has been in the ground about 5 years. There is a drop off just where they are planted so I think it drains well

@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 thanks for the info. I box all my palms using polycarbonate panels. Just purchased a rostrata this year and didn't get a chance to plant, looking for a dry spot. I am in zone 6b in Ontario.

@@davepolowick4535 I'm going to have to look into that. I'm sure they are not cheap. In the US the insulation boards are close to $50 USD for a 4 x 8 panel

@davepolowick4535 Жыл бұрын
@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 polycarbonate panels I believe are about the same price as an R10 insulation board, but during the day time the enclosure heats up with sun so they grow some over the winter which is a bonus!
