Winter Shelling in Marco Island is Great

This was my second trip to Marco Island but the first time winter shelling. I couldn't believe what I found! Winter shelling is known to be better, and I was very grateful to experience it. Almost all of my bucket list shells showed up. There is a lot of dredging going on the north side of Tigertail Beach where I found a lot of amazing shells and cool critters. The winter, the hurricane and the dredging combined to make this the greatest shelling trip of my life.

okay, just wondering if you were messing with us when you picked up a big round seed and seemed to think it was a sea shell, 😂, but otherwise I really appreciate some of the unusual stuff here, and wish you could've gone over the more unusual shells, esp the bivalves... and what were those orange yellow shells with the brown rings? did you inat to help with the ID?

Sorry I was too excited to share the shells I found. Yes, that brown seed is called a Sea Purse Bean. (No, that is not a seashell.) A really cool thing about them is that they traveled a long way to come see you. They grow in rain forests in the tropical areas, and the ocean currents carry them sometimes hundreds or even thousands of miles. If I am not mistaken your question about the orange yellow shells with the brown rings are called horse conch, about a min in my video... Horse conch get really big (19 in). When they are fully grown the color of the shell is not that pretty. The ones I found were much younger shells (empty shells:) but they kept their colors. I will try to explain a bit more about the bivalve next time. Thank you for watching my video, Happy Shelling :)

@@seashoreadventure Thanks for the cool info! actually, the spotted shells [or pieces of shell, not ribbed] that are just below and to the right of your cockleshell full of shells in the panoramic view of the entire collection at the beginning of the film [at 9 secs] are the ones I'm interested in knowing more about. Hmmm, parts of cowries?
