Ya this is probably RDJ's best performance in this few second scene. Ya gotta go through it frame by frame to see it. He goes from charging in heroically... to the Absolute Terror and Shock that he didn't die from getting his head blown off... to childishly pleased he tore the top of of the gun off.... to Ragefully Striking winter solder across the face ( WS should have had a bloody scratch from that ). Most people just jump on the RDJ FanWagon... but he's truly a great actor that I've seen from way back when he did less Than Zero. I hesitated to use this thumbnail because the scene has been overexposed(seen too much) but the genuine look of shock on RDJs face is Very convincing and its only there for like 3-5 frames.

I mean besides Thanos, he accomplished everything he set out to do. He successfully created a schism through the avengers that tore them apart, and he did it even more impressively so by being just a normal human with no powers. It really was... it is a simple yet well directed scene (very memorable). As an editor I would say the music/sound of the scene was polished of in the editing. Panther's presence in this film was much better than his solo film. In this he was sleek modern and slick as well as a superior fighter. Also stealthy as he is easy to underestimate at this weight class. I thought his solo film SUCKED compared to this.... a step back and a shitty script.

@@exterminator4808 well part of Bucky being so unstoppable back then is that he shows no restraint. His winter soldier mode is him focusing all his mental ability in combat and every blow is an attempt to kill. It’s years of programming to function as the complete assassin. When he isn’t mind controlled he shows restraint, has a free mind and is not focusing entirely on killing. For example, Spider-Man can kill a majority of his enemies if he wanted to but he always tries to hold back. In the same way, Bucky in the TFAWS never fought with the intent to kill, just subdue. If he was just trying to kill I think he could’ve taken out the flag smashers on his own lol.

Most martial artists fight open handed because an open palm strike gives you more area to strike with than a closed fist, doesn't damage your knuckles, and forces you to keep your wrist straight. While I agree with you that he's used to having claws, chances are, he's using his martial arts training and looking to do more damage to his opponent and less to himself by not using a closed fist.

To everyone saying that TFATWS really nerfed buck: they didn't nerf him at all. In this scene he's the winter soldier, an efficient, ruthless killer who doesn't pull any punches. He's going for the kill in these scenes, he's not holding back. In TFATWS Bucky is bucky. Yes, he likely still has the ability to do these things but he doesn't want to. The whole point of Bucky is that he resents the winter soldier, and wants to get as far away from it as possible. Buck doesn't want to kill anyone, so he holds back quite considerably.
@laxxla
@laxxla 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! We saw from the flashbacks that they remembered what the Winter Soldier could do, and they showed in Madripoor that Bucky can still tank through people if he wants to, but like you said; he *doesn't* want to. He has pretty much the same, if not higher, abilities than Steve, but Steve actually killed a lot of people during his fights, as did all of the Avengers. Bucky is terrified of getting more blood on his hands, innocent or not, so he holds back. Too much, sometimes, but his confidence in his own self-control should come with time. He might be more on form by Cap 4, assuming, and hoping, that he's in it.

And what? It placed him and falcon onto many dangerous situations because he held back. Yeah, not really the kind of predicament he needed to worry when he and his allies are put into jeopardy because of it. The same goes for Falcon as well. His character is assassinated in this series. The whole shield dilemma was moronic, albeit retconned to oblivion. As if Steve ever cared about race bs when entrusting the shield to Sam in Endgame. He believed that Falcon was right to be the next CA because of his character but nope, first thing you see is Sam giving up on it because it’s a white dude’s thing. The writing on this series is fucked and the race agenda is littered across it. Goddamn. Disappointing.

Loved how this movie established the Winter Soldier’s fighting vs Bucky’s fighting. Activated Winter Soldier cuts through the security and avengers like it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience, because he has no distractions, morals, self preservation instincts, heck I don’t think he even feels much pain. Compare this with Bucky fighting in the airport and and he struggles a lot more, like T’Challa and the Winter Soldier fight to a draw, whereas Bucky probably would’ve lost if Wanda hadn’t saved him at the airport. This idea continues in Falcon and the Winter Soldier too

I agree that Sharon and Natasha taking on Bucky was totally badass, but I disagree that it should have gone on any longer. I think it was perfect in length and execution. To me, the fact that they STAGGERED him was enough to make them badass. Like, holy shit. It highlights how technically skilled they are, and it proves that they are actually more technically skilled than any of the other fighters in the room, without making the other fighters seem weak. He is portrayed as a force of nature in this scene and if they are any real obstacle to him then it lessens him as a threat, and by diminishing Bucky, you are also diminishing the heart and skill it takes for them to do as much as they did. Captain America vs Thanos in Infinity War. I don't WANT Captain to be able to last longer against Thanos. The fact that he makes Thanos pause for all of 3 seconds is what makes that moment beautiful. It's the Tiananmen Square Tank Man effect.

Captain america , bucky , natassa , black panther they are all specialists in some form of combat or even many forms so the difference between them is huge but doesnt diminish Tony's fighting capabilities.

Without a doubt, Bucky Barnes as the winter soldier is a true monster, he’s a scary and ruthless killer with *ABSOLUTELY* no redeeming qualities about him, since he was brainwashed to be this monster by Hydra. All it took to turn Bucky into that monster was Zemo saying the magic word via in Russian language using the winter soldier book that was used to brainwash him. Not to mention his fighting skills were pretty badass.

Aside from T'challa putting up a fight, the rest of the avengers were lucky they were obstacles and not targets, he immobilized them in seconds, it's a shame Bucky became such an nerfed character after this movie, I know it's because he's not the winter soldier anymore but still. The Winter Soldier's co-creator said he's disappointed with how the MCU handled his character in TFATWS. I gotta agree with him.
@thefanwithoutaface8105
@thefanwithoutaface8105 2 жыл бұрын
It's more impressive when you remember T'Challa has actual super powers and Bucky still kicked his ass. But yeah Bucky is lethal in every sense of the word. He was essentially given the Infinity Formula a slightly improved version of the Super Soldier Serum but unlike Cap who didn't have any kind of training prior to get his serum, Bucky was already strong and had military training and recieved considerably more over the years he's been alive. By all accounts he's essentially a Terminator and when his kill switch is flipped unless you're names are Thor, Spiderman, Hulk or Ironman you better get the fuck out of his way. Seriously, I wished we could've seen this Bucky go against the Flagsmashers or hell just have John Walker go Winter Soldier. That would've been awesome and terrifying.
@pilkers2
@pilkers2 2 жыл бұрын
When did the winter soldier co creator say that?
@user-nv2wt4hi8t
@user-nv2wt4hi8t Жыл бұрын
I absolutely adore how 99% of the fanbase is united in being at a complete loss as to how they just keep nerfing Bucky. Just because he's not The Winter Soldier any more doesn't mean he should have just stopped using his martial arts. I mean, we saw the guy dodging bullets with butterfly twists and fighting equally with Captain America? Now he just throws wild haymakers and Sam is suddenly a master martial artist (he is in the comics too which is cool but Bucky is still shown better than him) but Bucky is now just a sloppy brawler? And then they show Walker easily ruined by the Dora despite being much bigger and supposedly incredibly trained himself (to the point of accurately using the shield even) but then once he gets the same serum as the Flag Smashers (who Bucky kicks the shit out of the entire series) he seems equal to or slightly stronger than Bucky (even his now vibranium arm when just his old normal metal arm would overpower both of Steve and T'Challa's?) and as good of a combatant despite Bucky having Sam's help? Ridiculous. They need to make him as efficient as he used to be. He remembers ten tonne of locations and names and people and awful events he helped cause but doesn't remember his world class training at all times? The Winter Soldier could catch Steve's throw with ease with his metal arm and do so without even looking but John's throw launches him when he has a Vibranium arm? Just because he's Bucky now? John is a 10 tonner in the comics but he clearly isn't here (every time they're grappling each other they're both using two hands), he more seems to get rage boosts that help him with momentary feats but that seems stretching it considering Bucky destroys every Flag Smasher he comes across in the show, who had the same serum as John? Similarly, as I say, John is written to be whooped by the Dora despite him supposedly being a peak athlete and soldier (trained extensively in using the shield) but then the moment he gets the serum he's skilled enough to take on both Bucky (who should but doesn't have the old Winter Soldier training in him) and Sam (who's now clearly a great martial artist himself, keeping up with Batroc)? I mean, I know Sam is without serum so I like how he gets brushed off easily (it's realistic to how powerful Cap, Bucky and T'Challa are shown as they vault anyone and everyone) but surely that support would be so noticeable if Walker was fighting a Bucky actually using his Winter Soldier training (who matched Cap and out of suit T'Challa)? And it’s one thing to say about his mental state but there’s reluctance to kill people and then there’s just outright forgetting all of his combat training despite being shown to remember dates and times and locations and people, to languages and events to the letter, but suddenly he’s a worse martial artist than Sam despite previously being Steve and T’Challa’s equal in skill? It makes no sense he’d be such a sloppy brawler when before he was a technical machine, a complete monster (and should still be even without the Winter Soldier programming as he remembers everything else from those days).

One of the best MCU fight scenes, with poor Bucky being "Activated" as the Winter Soldier and tearing his way through everyone but Steve. Such a strong opening for T'Challa, though-no suit, no gear, he still fought the most effective and elite assassin of the entire 20th century to a standstill bare-handed. Also, judos to Tony Stark taking on the WS with only an Iron Man gauntlet.

Remember, that's how she freed Clint from mind-control in Avengers, so she knows it works but she can't hit him hard enough. It took her slamming Clint's head into a metal railing for him to come back to himself. Likewise, here Bucky only comes back to himself when his head hits the windshield of the helicopter as it lands in the water. Continuity!
