Experienced this at -55F while stationed at Eielson AFB near Fairbanks. That's a cold you can't imagine. Privileged to fly the A-10 and F-16 in this life changing environment.

Now for a june solstice version, the camera would have to follow the "motion of the sun". In that whole month plus July the sun goes across almost the entire sky, dips below the horizon, and gives those Alaska residents civil twilight for only 3 or 4 hours.

I used to live in Fairbanks years ago and remember looking at the sun this time of year. My question was, "is the sun rising or setting?" This time of year, the fact that it is there at all is the highlight of the day...or night...or, well, you know what I mean :)

The winter solstice near the arctic circle is always best viewed from a south facing coastline as there is not much obstruction. Other decent vantage points include from height overlooking flat southernly terrain. I have had the privilege of seeing this in Finland near Tornio. It is a bit further north than Fairbanks at 63N, the sun rises but hugs the horizon for about an hour and a half before setting.

In Fairbanks, the sun reaches a sky altitude of 2 degrees on the week of December 21st to contrast just outside the Antarctic Circle where, at the equivalent latitude, the sun reaches 49 degrees at solar noon-time.
