The UK is braced for more disruption, with another storm forecast for the second weekend running, this time its Storm Dennis. The worst hit areas could see between 120 - 140 mm of rainfall and gusts of up to 80mph.
Planes battle through turbulent winds as Storm Dennis hits UK, some planes forced to abort landings at last second.

They are moving but since the camera is zoomed faraway away you cannot see the motion. Check Bernoulli's principle. It ain't a magic, it is science.

Sam Amoo thank you. I‘m aware of the fact that normal landing speed is around 170mph (273kmh). But it always looks so slow even from another point of view.

Are those pilots amazing or what! Excellent video too. I appreciated that the captions lasted long enough to read fully. Thanks. Fascinating to see the amount of turbulent spray with the reverse thrust, especially with the A380s and B747. Also the extensive rudder use after touchdown. Totally awesome video again.

I did not know that so had another look at the video. It shows the fact well for the left-side engines. Cross-wind and camera angle masks it on the right side. Also - amazing upward wing flex particularly with the Dreamliner (B788?) at the start.

Fully agree on the pilots skill level. For me, just seeing pilots land the massive A380 in good weather is amazing. I sat at IAH (Houston) just before Hurricane Harvey unleashed its full potential on the city and shut it down. Runway was quite wet and I got to see the spray from an A380, it's awesome! For a few seconds I thought the wind was affecting the rudders in the video. Also, thank you Ian, learned something new about the A380!

The reason is, that with the long wings, the outer engines are too near to the grassed areas, particularly on narrower runways, and an unacceptable risk of soil and stones being blown up and causing damage so Airbus designed it out. Also, the visibly moving rudder in the seconds after first contact with the ground, is the pilot “straightening-out” , from the plane’s crosswind-attitude on approach, to align the plane with, the runway centreline once down. It is so awesome to see the skill of these pilots. The rudder inputs are extreme and with authority. How they go from crab angle to weathervaining is unbelievable.

hmmm that's hard to judge actually because gusts are not constant. Maybe Cathay pacific had slightly better conditions for landing.

I landed at Gatwick from Barbados early this morning. I am so grateful to the pilots and cabin crew of British Airways. There was an attempt at landing, but it was not possible. People were screaming and crying. We had to circle the airport for about half an hour. The pilot explained that he was waiting for instructions. Things were so silent - apart from the noise of the aircraft. There was an absence of conversation and things were eerily silent. As we hit the runway, people applauded. It was so scary.

I was on a saudia flight SV117 from riyadh to LHR on saturday 15th feb. And we came in sideways too, exactly like these. Insane pilot skill. We had the front camera on the whole time (we were on a boeing triple 7) luggage came down from the overheads and at one point we didnt even have the runway in front of us, pilot managed to recover it. Im ex forces and flown into some crazy places in tactical landings, this was right up with those experiances.

Too bad Airbus will never get back their 25 billion dollar investment into this machine, and production will end in 2021. 747 began in 1968 and is still in production. The worlds first Jumbo Jet will never be dethroned due to this record. NOTE: Airbus A380-800 equals Airbus A388. Same plane. Ironcrafter used an incomplete designation which can cause confusion. Compare the landings at 4:00 and 8:00. 747-400 vs. A380-800. The 747 is actually smoother.

Was on the 747 from Vancouver. Recall the moment they put the landing gear back in, the Captain announced on the loud speaker "Don't worry, we are trained for this" with no further explanation.

I love flying ,and have been lucky enough to escape bad winds,except for a bit of turbulence the only scary moment for me was coming into LHR on a really foggy night in december, eva airways and coming in over london i remember seeing the shard or the egg just poking up through the thick fog, was i glad when we touched down, seeme a little fast to me but was greatfull to the skills of the pilots, and thankful we didn't get diverted ,.these guys are heroes in my eyes ,.
