In this video I built a warm winter survival shelter and it was one of the hardest shelters I have ever built.
This shelter is made of wood and mud.
I dug the ground to build this Bushcraft shelter and made the roof and wall with tree branches.
I also made an oven to heat and cook food.
This bushcraft shelter was able to protect me well from the winter cold.

Simple thoughtful. Snowfall helped the camouflage so much 👍. The fire pit is awesome, half in half out, clever, though the fire must be kept small not to burn the whole place.👍👍👍

Yea, soil over the top would hide it and insulate it very well before snow and it would let grass/other plants grow on the side aswell

Aye, a lot to learn every day :) Just dont go out rhere in high heels and rubbish city clothes. Always bring food, water, firesteel, lighters, boots and a good jacket ;)

Been building shelters , forts and huts all my life and yes i understand this type and i can see the simplicity of them but when it rains, it pours. I think short term, their fine, long term wear a life jacket when your in it.

Hope he finds a special place by the lake where there’s many many fish, and he builds a very big cabin underground and keeps on adding onto it . That would be so wonderful to watch it. Grow bigger and bigger and bigger instead of going around from place to place building other cabinets that he’s never going to use.. he’s getting old now. It should have his own place and we would love to see it. Just make the biggest cabin ever little by little by little.😂

small controlled, monitored fire. dont go to sleep with it going. Dig the trench a little longer on the outside and u can use you shovel to push any coals etc away from shelter when u go the sleep

the specific pieces are made of poplar which is very difficult to unlikely to catch fire. And of course the fire inside the accommodation is moderate

Then I can enjoy the winter time swimming! This is a temporary shelter during winter time, not a permanent cottage. In case of warmth, you are right. It is highly probable for the whole structure to get soaked. It's for winter!

Really good job. One improvement I would suggest would be a cap over the stone fireplace to keep snow/rain off your fire.

Great adventure and bravo for your hard work I have an idea I would share with you, you can bring with you aluminum foil it’s useful for example you can wrap that wooden stick you use it for cooking By this way the fire will not burn it And also you can wrap your piece of meat 🥩 inside and put it inside the embers after a while you will get a delicious dinner of course the meat you should prepare it at home with some spices and olive oil Enjoy

Frost depth varies according to your latitude, but when you dig below your frost depth, the temperature does not get below zero F. It’s easier to warm a dwelling up from 32 degrees than from minus 10 degrees, or colder. Our ancestors discovered this eons ago.

You want tl start in location near the top of the hill as rain and snow melt will go down hill.

Unfortunately, one hard rainstorm will turn the shelter into a bathtub. The roofline needs to run straight down like a shed dormer, so the water runs down the roof and off the front of the shelter. The roof also needs to be covered with a tarp.

the roof and the standing point will leak water inside.. not the best choice.. the wooden base near the fireplace have also the danger to catch fire....

I'm curious if there are any issues if it rains or a warmer day with the snow. The basis of the shelter is essentially a divot on a hillside, that seems likely to trap water pretty easily.

So many people have asked the same question. This is a temporary shelter during winter time, not a permanent cottage. In case of warmth, you are right. It is highly probable for the whole structure to get soaked. In fact, this shelter is mainly made for winter time.

Add a drainage trench above and inside flowing out using the hill gravity. routing water away, simple mechanics.
