I live in VA and I love my Rav 4 hybrid XLE with cold weather package! The heated steering wheel is awesome, no gloves needed. My first tank I got 50.179 mpg in normal mode! She is pretty, very smart, fun to drive and gets awesome gas mileage. I totally am in love and highly recommend!!!

We just got this exact model and my wife loves it! It’s so fun to drive, it has a rugged feel, and is very good in bad weather. Very quick in sport mode. Mpg is around 50hwy and 45 in our hilly rural area. The awd works flawlessly and even kicks in in the corners. It feels sporty and futuristic. Lots of cool features.

Don't forget that the ultimate deciding factor in slippery conditions (snow/ice/mud/dirt etc) is your tires. In the snow dump we had 2 days ago my Front Wheel Drive 2016 Sonata was doing better than some 4WD/AWD vehicles because they were on normal tires & I was on snow tires. 4WD/AWD helps you accelerate & some help in cornering/braking, but grip is grip & snow/ice tires will help with STOPPING.

Love the outstanding fuel efficiency consumption single tank no problem going 870km average sometime able to stretch to 900km depends on the road condition and driving mode. Stephen, Toyota forgot about the possible combination of modern child seats and parents over 6 feet tall when they settled on the final interior dimensions of this otherwise fine CUV. I don't know if Truck King ever plans on towing with a RAV4 Hybrid but for those who need to know right away, Alex On Autos did extremely detailed tow tests with a trailer which exceeded the 1,750 pound tow rating. Finally, I am sure the 17" wheels on lower trims levels would smooth out the ride.

Getting over 43 mpg after some practice in my new RAV4 hybrid! Initially, I was doing too much. I was trying to use the electric ability as much as possible. Watching the graphic engine power graphic...charging the battery/using the battery...trying to avoid the ICE. Shooting for the "Pulse and glide method." After about 2 weeks, I embraced some ideas that have earned 3mpg better. First, I learned that using the electric battery (process of charging the electric battery with the gas engine) is not without its own parasitic drain...and second, the ICE engine is very efficient in its own right. So, I started doing less jockeying of the vehicle to "stay in electric" and let it do it's own thing...It will do the work for you! It will choose the most efficient mode of operation. I do look ahead to anticipate stops and incorporate coasting time. I do speed up gradually. In forums and on youtube I've seen the proposal to: "get up to speed so you can coast and get off the ICE engine." This sounds well thought out...and I wasn't gunning it to get to speed either...just not delaying....anyway...it wasn't panning out. I just speed up gradually...slow down gradually and let the car do the rest. 43.6 mpg average now. It was enlightening to me to see the vehicle get its best numbers after taking a highway trip when it should be less efficient as hybrids go. But...the highway driving limited my ability to jockey the electric battery and I had to allow the vehicle to do its own thing. And surprise, surprise...the average mpg shot up. It's just that simple.

As an Aussie, I would appreciate your comments on the best modes to utilise in the snow given your Canadian winter background. Mainly looking at icy mountain roads (assent & descent), if the use of either the S individual low gear selector or very light application of regenerative braking to slow down on steep descents is practical; and is the Trail mode of any particular use on snow? @@user-lj5ri3gp5o Toyota New Jockey Architecture is not simply a product of our imagination. About a year ago I was in a Toyota showroom and sat in the 2019 Yaris hatch, 2020 Corolla Sedan and 2020 RAV4 back to back to back. At about 6'3" (with a long torso) I don't fit in the Corolla at all and I can only manage the RAV4 without a moonroof but the Yaris was fine. For comparison sake, my 05 Vibe leaves me with 2-3 inches of spare headroom and a nicely raised seating position as a bonus. Parked beside the new Corolla, my Vibe is about 6 inches taller! I really hope Toyota sorts this major miscalculation out with the next generation as North Americans are not getting smaller in any dimension.

@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 3 жыл бұрын
@@rmleider First off, the Outback is in a different class of cars. By size, it is a mid-size CUV (think Edge, Grand Cherokee, Passport, etc). By engineering, it’s a lifted wagon. It’s also higher in price. While you may have similar use for it, it should not be compared to the CX-5, Rav4 or similar. This is why Subaru makes the Forester. That is the competitor to them on all accounts. Second, decisions on what car to get always come down to needs vs price. The CX5 is small and without the turbo... slow, but its interior is plush and it’s more fun to drive. The Forester is roomy and has a permanent AWD setup, but its still crude and handles poorly on the highway. It’s also slow and has a CVT (maintenance/reliability concerns). The Rav4 hybrid is FAR better than those on fuel, is considerably faster and the interior volume is just below the Forester. It has a dual injection system engine (not direct injection like the others) and an eCVT (planetary gear) transmission, which is indestructible. It handles EXTREMELY well. Instead of “I’ve heard”, why don’t you test drive it and then comment?

@@afcgeo882 please explain further. What material is my front and rear facing sensors underneath? I have examples from puppies that would lead me to believe it is some form of glass. I will also tell you that they most certainly are contained underneath the protective layer on the rear and under the interface screen on the front. I replaced my screen at home on my galaxy tab and the front facing sensor was once again beneath the glass. @@coryernewein 1. All camera apertures (not sensors) are in lenses or under glass/plastic covers. In fact, lenses are made of glass. 2. To say that camera lenses are under the phone’s glass covers is incorrect. On the vast majority of phones, lenses have their own glass, on front and back. 3. All vehicle safety system sensors also have glass/plastic covers. Those that are mounted under the windshield, by the rearview mirror are camera-based. They also have lenses, made of glass, like any camera. Those that are mounted in the grille are radar-based. They don’t have lenses. The camera-based systems hide behind the windshield so that snow/dirt don’t build up on them, rendering them useless. Radar-based systems are less sensitive to that and are usually protected by a small plastic shield. Google images of new Acuras and look at their grille logos. You’ll see what those shields look like.

Yes the lenses are glass...duh but on my 3 yr old Samsung note 9 the pinhole camera on the front is under the screen(along with its own lense ofcourse for clarity purposes) and on the rear it is the same story albeit that they have a much smaller glass window over the sensors. I beg you to investigate a channel called Jerry Rig Everything where he does phone and random tech teardowns. As for the camera systems on cars yes once again the lenses are glass but usually the camera protrudes and leaves a weird bump esthetically not to mention they silly squirters they have do not do much where I live once the temperature drops. Does the odometer only count distance when the gas engine is running, or total drive distance? Just curious for counting fuel mileage manually vs using what the screen shows. For the US it would be distance / gallons. But if you do some in town driving and it doesn't count the distance that it uses only the batteries, that would screw up the MPGs.

@@1asian1phone Dealers don’t play dumb. They LOVE doing repair work. Dealers are independent businesses and if the manufacturer will pay for the work, they’re happy to make the money! Toyota only came out with the sensor fix recently and it has NOTHING to do with how you pump at the end. ALL modern cars are required to make the pump click off a couple of gallons before it can spill over, for safety. The tank volumes are measured to the second click-off. Never pump past that! The issue is that the sensors aren’t detecting a few gallons at the bottom of the saddle-shaped tank, leaving 2 gallons on each side (4 total) of fuel even though it reads “E”. Just call your dealer. There is a program in place. Get in line to get your sensor replaced.

Locking any differential should never be done above 25mph to avoid binding. 4.1 had a center differential lock. 4.2 had an odd setup that used some of the torque from the front to be sent to the rear, but never all (not locked). Also had a limited slip rear differential in its early years. 4.3 and 4.4 had an electronic “4WD” button which engaged the multi plate clutch into a 55:45 ratio and kept it until the car reached 25mph. You have no clue of how your cars work. That’s pretty bad.

Had a chance to rent a rav4 xle for 3 weeks (not hybrid) and wow was the gas great versus my Jeep Grand Cherokee limited! Do you remember if this hybrid version you tested had a telescopic steering wheel? The one I rented did not move towards my body only up or down which made my arms hurt. Thanks if anyone knows 👍🏻

I have a couple questions. 1) How do the batteries hold up in extreme cold? 2) If it gets too cold for the batteries to function properly, do you lose power to the rear wheels since it is solely driven by an electric motor? I live in mn and it can reach -30°F here.
