Little glimpses of what truckers has to endure in this part of the world. We are out there to deliver the food you buy from the store, transport the things you produce at work.... 365 days a year.... and just like in JJ Cale's song "Roll on" That's what we do ;) Enjoy the trip, footage from the winter 2014/2015 in Northern Norway and Sweden. Partly taken with my cellphone and my Dashcam.

Man, those are some harsh conditions. We experience the same conditions here in the western U.S. Whiteout storms, narrow, whindey, steep mountain roads. I don't know how you all drive those roads with a single drive axle. I would love the chance to drive truck in Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Drive safe brother.

Slipses I just watched the video, i give my respect to you and many other truckers in there who keep driving in such conditions in Norway and Sweden. I know it's not a easy job as someone may think since i've drove 25,25m long truck which is longest truck which regulations lets you drive!

2.50 i certenly don't miss. 26h i sat on Björnfjell toll station. Me and 2 others. Not worth going otuside unless you had a skimask. Cab airintake had to be deiced every 2h. it was snowing sideways. Only fun was to drive the last bit from Abisko to Riksgrensen, passed snow walls that was over 1.5m high and road was closed on Norwegian side so none coming the other way

That's one thing I don't understand, why they don't leave trucks without mounted chains behind the convoy, the guy I'm passing on Bjørnefjell, didn't mount his chains, and got stuck, while we halfway down the mountain :(

One more thing; I'm truly amazed how you guys pull a three axle trailer with one drive axle on those snowy slippery roads! It's hard enough to pull a three (3) axle or a five (5) axle B-train with a tandem drive, but single drive??? That's something that won't work in N America because we're limited to only 20,000 lbs (aprox. 9000 kg) on a single drive axle and that's not enough weight on it and thus not enough traction. Tandem drive allows 34,000 lbs in the US and I believe 40,000 lbs in Canada. That's a bit more weight on the drives and thus more traction.

Hereintranzit Hi :) we do have a few aces up our sleeves. First our weights are higher, empty my truck weighs a total of 21900 kgs, and when fully loaded 50000kgs 26000 on the truck and 24000kgs on the trailer. On my drive axle I'm allowed up to 12000kgs, but in rough conditions, I'm allowed to move weight from the tag axle /bogie axle to the drive axle, I can do that while driving, just by pushing a button on the dashboard, so let's say I'm going up a slippery hill, in seconds I can have ie 16000kgs on my drive axle, I can even lift it off the ground, which gives me around 22000kgs on my drive axle, lol but hardly any steering is left :) so that last option is only for extreme situations :) besides that, I drive with winter tires on all 6 axles, required by law in Norway, and my traction and my front tires are studded :)

Hey, does the yellow/amber line strictly mean the separation of the directions of travel in the Scandinavian region like here in the US and Canada, or something else? I know that in most of Europe they don't have the same rules like in North America and I've seen over there plenty of two lane highways and roads with white line between the directions of travel. Here in the US and Canada you always stay to the right of the yellow line because it indicates that to the left of it the traffic comes from the other direction. Yellow, dotted or continuous line, it's exclusively for delimitating between the lanes of travel in the oposite directions. White, dotted or continuous line, delimitates only the lanes of traffic that go in the same direction. This is a good traffic managing rule that should be universal allover the world, in my opinion!
@Slipse
@Slipse 7 жыл бұрын
Hereintranzit yes the yellow line is for separation of driving directions. In most European countries, that line would be white, but up here in Norway, it's more visible in yellow, when the road is covered with ice and snow :)

Slipses yea, it looks kinda like Northern Canada and the state of Alaska over there! Short bright summers when you get eaten alive by mosquitos and long dark withers when the temps rarely goes above the negative 40s. Darn, that's cold!

+frustratednomad In Europe truckers have 6 meters of road in two lines, Ice road truckers have 6 HUNDRED meters of width in ONE line he,he. There is no comparation. My grandmother would drive there if she was not too cold ( rheumatism, arthritis, and shit like that he, he )

Your opinion - 6x4-2 truck better than 6x4/2 in winter? Greetings from Russia))
@Slipse
@Slipse 8 жыл бұрын
+Romul MackHello Romul :) Do you mean whether the liftable axle is in front or after the drive axle ? The configuration where the liftable axle is in front of the drive axle, is best when it comes to adding some extra weight to the steering axle, but it's more or less useless, when it comes to adding weight to the drive axle. I prefer to have the liftable axle at the rear, the truck becomes a tiny bit more difficult to steer, but you can add loads of weight to the drive axle, and keep moving ;) when I'm empty, with this trailer I drive with now, and I lift the bogie axle, and the front axle on the trailer, I've got 9,9 ton on my drive axle ;)) I haven't had snow chains on yet this winter ;)
@Thorbjrn
@Thorbjrn 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answer)I live in the Ural, we have mountains too. Those who come to the flat part of Russia , used 4x2, they often have problems in winter on the climbs) Some use 6x4. Unfortunately not many people use the liftable axle at the rear. And shovel, sand, snow chains - this a ""gentleman's kit"" for all truckers)) Sorry for my bad english)
