If I've understood correctly, the album is "Time I" (first) and it includes the song Time which is (IMO) much better song than this one. The Time II is hopefully released on this decade.

Hi Dashy, Hi Dad, oh yes my friends...14 minutes of unadulterated metal bliss. Thank you so much reacting to Wintersun. Thank also to Dennis for suggesting this absolutely brilliant track. You will really love the Time 1 album guys. There are a few tracks that have also been rehearsed at Sonic Pump ....for Time 1 live rehearsals Time, Lane of Snow and Sorrow ....all absolutely brilliant. The band are absolutely brilliant... as you say Kai was phenomenal...he must have sweated out a gallon of water. He is the same on the other tracks. As Keith mentioned the new bassist for Nightwish is Jukka from Wintersun... the rhythm section together again👍🤘. There's also a drum playtrough in KZfaq Kai did in some drummer convention, and it's hilarious because he's like relaxing in a back of some lounge while playing these drums without a single mistake. The other drummers watching were quite persplexed. But the video you saw was a live rehearsal, and after the video they have played these god knows how many times, songs like this back to back, so by now it's a routine matter. Jari, the singer in this video, composed, played, recorded and mixed the whole album except drums. Drums require so different kind of talent that for drums he asked Kai to both compose and play them. So for once Kai could get to play at his own personal limit, because the songs are so thick in layers you hardly can overshadow it with complicated drum patterns and he got to compose it himself. It took Jari years and years to make the album, partially because his computer had trouble handling the 1400 or so tracks. And of course because he's a perfectionist and played and sung every damn layers. I guess it's not exaggeration to say he's a master of his craft. As for genre, I'd classify this as symphonic proggressive black metal, but bands like these tends to be their own genre. There's no other band sitting in this exact space.

Kai was recruited by Jukka, the previous drummer in Nightwish, when he had to step down due to health issues. Jukka didn't step down before making sure there was someone worthy of the position in his stead. They are both phenomenal, but in different ways. At such high level there's always some "flavour" that's very personal, because different people have different kinds of tastes and different physique. (Of course, then there's Emppu, who's mastery is in being able to switch styles like guitar picks depending on what each song needs. Some who are just coming to Nighwish have commented him not being very spectacular, but that's because you understand no one is in Nightwish to show off, and Emppu can do *tons* of different styles spotless. Whatever the song needs, or whichever other artist they want to do a tribute for, he just does it and grins at the audience.)

Exactly how I also feel about Emppu 🤗 Why make a rachet where it is'nt useful 🤗🤗 When it comes to Wintersun, the concept album Forests seasons is worth a go through, even tho I had to take it in bits. 😄 The last song on this js Loneliness, and this one Jari wrote to his late father! Simply beautiful 🤗🤗

And Emppu gets all the love he needs from the audience - he does not need to impress outsiders. When you see Emppu grinning widely on stage he almost always looks like he's in eye contact with his fans. ❤️ They love him and he loves back.

And hey, thanks! You kicked me to finally get tickets to this year's Tuska festival. No Wintersun, but if Wintersun was touring it _would_ be there. But Arch Enemy, Jinjer, Marko Hietala etc. etc. will make it an unforgettable weekend anyway. If you're a metalhead and want to see the brightest current stars, Tuska or Wacken are places to go.

It was good i looked up your video section, nearly missed this, real funny, reaction of yours. The 2 or 3 Vids with only showing Kai doing the drums of this songs at some drummer-conventions were already mentioned. One thing to say: there is a interview of Kai about this Rehearsals and the tour afterwards. If i remember correctly, Kai said that he did drumming for this a whole 6 month before with 8+ hours each day, so he was able to do it right. So, yes, his drumming for Nightwish is just a low-level-workout for him, for sure.

Yes and no. Tuomas has the final say on anything, but the other members _do_ suggest changes and they often make it to the final version, or the current live version. Like the current ending for Ghost Love Score with the high belt was suggested by Floor, and was not there before late 2012. And for example in Weak Fantasy intro the repeated drum solos are different on *every concert* When it comes to drumming at Kai's (or Jukka's) level, I am pretty sure Tuomas even can't compose it completely. This is similar to communicating vocal styles to Floor: Tuomas tells what kind emotion or overall feeling and progress of it is needed at each point, and the final details come out of that when they play/sing it for some of the first times. These are organic instruments.

THere are seriously overpresented fascination about Kai from a Nightwish. I tried to listen to them, but their female vocal is boring as potatoe sack, and music is average, non-bad. THen do a surface exploring of musicmanship of Jari. He has permanent placeholder at metal Valhalla. God tier.

When it comes to Kai and body fat, I imagine it's a bit similar than to seasonal workers doing really physical work. You need to accumulate some amount of fat to burn off during the tour, or the season of work. It's hard to eat enough to fully cover all the calories burnt. (Studies have measured metal drummers burning 10 calories per minute and averaging heart rate of 150 bpm. And Kai's playing at intensity at the top of the envelope for a metal drummer.)

I love the instrumentation, sadly I'm not a fan of growling for main vocals (I like it for highlights), so I haven't got deeply into Wintersun. Yeah, this band is 100% Jari's beast. Kai on drums adds a ton, but Jari is just an amazing musician all around.

I think the reason Wintersun is not that big is because they release albums very rarely (they are released when they are Ready(tm), not in intervals needed to keep band headlining in festivals) and because it's such an overwhelming sonic assault. You need to prepare yourself first with more approachable metal bands first. And of course, in America money talks. What plays in radio is what studio marketing teams paid to play there, so goodness of music is less of a factor. Simple music in standard pop rock format is a lot easier to sell.

Not 'featuring' Kai, as he got the gig in Nightwish after this. TBH, I think his talents are wasted in Nightwish - although it probably is good for his wallet, and I have no problems with that. A musician has to live and earn, doesn't he? Sorry to say, but I stoped watching your reaction during the third part when you still only focused on Kai, who didn't even play during it - you didn't seem to care about the music at all.
